With over 30 years of classroom, strategic, managerial, examination and assessment experience, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to tutoring your child/you. Tutoring is all about focusing the student on exactly what the question/task demands and demystifying the process, opening up possibilities and developing intellectual curiosity.
In my most recent school, one class had a value added score of +2.07. Across the entire GCSE cohort, 87% G9-G4 achieved, from a predicted 54%.
Before we start the tutoring, I carry out an audit of what knowledge and understanding of content there is, plus learning about the obstacles you face, what perceptions hold you back and finding out what kind of learner you are.
I will listen really carefully to what you need and will offer a plan to help you progress and move forward. Similarly, if I can't help, I will inform you of this too. It's really important that we get on.
Every student/learner is different; every backstory is unique. Many students have barriers; sometimes reassurance and pointing in the right direction will suffice.
Some years ago, I tutored a student on a Saturday morning. He was a bright and a very able science/maths learner (straight As at GCSE) yet could not handle English or Literature and this was clearly holding him back (both his own self-esteem and his grades). It took a few weeks to instill a new way of apporaching the texts/writing, but once we applied a 'scientific approach' to analysis, it completely revolutinised his way of working. (He moved from a D to an A in four months of being with me, by the way!)
That was not a one-off. My recent tutoring has enabled me to accelerate learners way beyond what they thought they were capable of. Tutees are at the centre of the experince and it is all focused on them. I have an excellent interpersonal style, which is firm and fair, with a strong sense of agenda and coverage. We will go over things, revisiting to reinforce previous learning and to create the space where the tutee feels more independent and able to move forward without support. When a tutee says "I think I'm good from here!" I take that as a moment of great success!
Whether it's GCSE, A Level, BTEC or degree level, I will commit to working with you to make great progress.

My teaching experience is based on my friends. I have not been practising it outside my inner circle, but there is always a place to grow. I have an IB diploma certificate that can prove my efficiency level in the English language and a certificate from a Ukrainian school supporting my high level of knowledge in my native language.

I trained at the Oxford School of Drama from 2002 to 2005. As a professional actor, I've appeared in major TV, Film and Theatre productions in the UK, the US and Canada. My work on Supernatural, Psych and A Christmas Prince 1 & 2 can currently be viewed on Netflix. Prior to appearing on TV and Film, I spent 8 years working regularly in UK Theatre.
I have extensive experience working in corporate training and facilitation. In 2015 I joined a leading London-based communication skills company, departing to work independently in 2016. He has since conducted over 1000 hours of one-to-one and group communication training.
Previous clients include managers and executives from: Goldman-Sachs, Morgan Stanley, BNP Paribas, HSBC, RBS, Hellman & Friedman, Appirio, Hive Learning, AMC Europe, B3, Regester Larkin by Deloitte, the British Army, UK Border Agency, The Garnett Foundation, Channel 4 THINKBigger!, SOAS University of London, Wright & Wright Architects, Imperial College London, Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency & Bit Zesty Ltd.
Based on my own experience of overcoming speech challenges as a child, I feel there is no limit to a person’s potential as a powerful, skilled and accomplished communicator if they’re willing to commit themselves to self-expression and connecting with those around them. In Praesentia Training, I bring together acting technique and the latest learning methodologies - including sequencing, online learning and self-instruction - to give my clients the tools to build their confidence and skill long into the future.

TESTIMONIALS:
Madeleine Milburn - Literary Agent of the Year, 2018 British Book Awards
‘Learning from Theo was a life-changing experience. He makes you feel so relaxed, creating a very easy environment to learn in. I now feel I have more authority and integrity in every social and professional situation.'
Edwin Abl - Chief Marketing Officer, Hive Learning
Theo continues to provide evolving solutions to my public speaking challenges. So far he’s helped me to confidently engage large audiences of business leaders as well as high-value meetings within my own organisation. As well as introducing him to colleagues and their teams, I continue to mine Theo for ever more valuable insights!
Laura Paplauskaite - Founder & Managing Director, Bit Zesty Ltd.
I would recommend Theo to anyone who needs to hone their public speaking or general communication skills. Theo is brilliant at putting me at ease - working with him is always fun. I no longer avoid presentations or dread pitches - in fact, I view them as an opportunity to practice my (newly acquired) skills.

I trained for 3 years as an actor at Birmingham School of Speech & Drama ( now Royal Birmingham Conservatoire) and have worked in theatre, film and commercials. As an actor I've found out that the learning process that starts at drama school is something that never ends. There is something wonderful about that fact. Each new role opens up another little world of discovery!
Coaching drama school applicants is a particularly appealing thing. Having been one myself I'm so aware of how much there is to learn and how exciting it all is!
My approach is student-centred rather than method centred. There are many approaches to acting and there is definitely not one method that fits every actor.
Another thought is that I believe in teaching with positive reinforcement rather than criticism.
After the first lesson please pay the full amount in advance of any lesson you would like to arrange. If you had to cancel the lesson, if you were to do so four hours or more before the start I would refund the fee, but if were less than four hours beforehand I would not.
At the moment I solely teach online via Skype or Zoom.
If the internet connection prevented us from linking up for a lesson I would schedule another without further charge at a different and mutually agreed time.

My teaching career began over two decades ago. I spent six happy years at the ArtsEd Drama School in Chiswick, where, rather serendipitously, I assumed the reins of responsibility from MY drama teacher! I worked for a further 15 years at a highly ambitious and educationally driven institution, Ibstock Place School in Roehampton. I still teach part-time at Ewell Castle School, near Epsom. I am a highly experienced practitioner of Drama. I have directed countless productions, small and large scale. I have Production Managed almost every single one, so good organisation and the requirement to be 'people-friendly' and an effective communicator, are skills I acquired quickly and retain today. Most of all, I am proud to say that former pupils have gone on to study at a host of vocational training institutions: RADA, Guildhall, Brit, London Contemporary and Laines, and are themselves now successfully working professionally as actors, singer, dancers and stage managers. Some have even gone on to play leading roles on Broadway, the West-End, the RSC, Regent's Park and film and TV. I have taught both GCSE and A-Level Drama with a proven track record of outstanding results, year on year. I know what exam boards require and what pitfalls to avoid. I understand different learning styles and appreciate that young people do not necessarily fall into the same learning mould. I am happy to accommodate everyone. I have examined Drama GCSE and Expressive Arts GCSE for AQA. In pastoral roles, as a former Head of Year 11 and Sixth Form Tutor, I am acutely aware of the physical and mental pressures our teenagers can experience as they try to navigate the choppy waters around public examinations season. You will find me empathic, patient and interested in helping learners challenge their perceptions of learning, helping them shift from a 'fixed' mindset to a 'growth' mindset, thus repairing a bruised self-confidence in the process. I have taught LAMDA Examinations in Acting and ESB (English Speaking Board) Public Speaking Examinations, each to Grade 8, Gold Medal Level, once again, with a proven track record of success. Throughout my career, I have always held a managerial role. I have been Subject Leader for Drama, Head of a large Creative Arts Faculty and also on the Senior Leadership team at ArtEd. Latterly at IPS, I was on the Building Committee, advising on constructing a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Complex which included a Proscenium Arch Theatre and fully equipped Studio Theatre. Crucially, my teaching work has been underpinned and informed by my early career working as a professional actor and Stage Manager. I studied a Performing Arts degree at Middlesex University, after which, I spent a decade performing in the West-End and National Touring large-scale musicals. I have worked extensively in the recording studio and on the radio. Until Covid hit last year, I was the Stage Door Keeper of the Noel Coward Theatre, working for Sir Cameron Mackintosh.
