A cosmetic is any substance used to clean, improve or change the complexion, skin, hair, nails or teeth. Cosmetics include beauty preparations using make-up, perfume, skin cream, nail polish and grooming aids like soap, shampoo, shaving cream, deodoran).

Cosmetics are mixtures of chemical compounds derived either from natural sources, or synthetically created ones. Cosmetics have many purposes. Those that are designed for personal care and skin care can be used to protect or to cleanse the body or skin. Cosmetics designed to enhance or alter one's appearance (makeup) can be used to conceal blemishes, enhance one's natural features (such as the eyebrows and eyelashes), add colour to a person's face, or change the appearance of the face entirely to resemble a different person, creature or object. Cosmetics can also be designed to add fragrance to the body.

What is a Manicure?

Manicures usually involve a combination of techniques and treatments, and these vary. Typically, a manicure may include hand massage, cuticle treatments, exfoliation, waxing and polishing treatments, and nail shaping with nail polish application. 

This is the most basic procedure for nail care, soothing and softening the hands. It is mainly done by removing dead skin cells and moisturising the hands and feet with a short massage.

A regular manicure starts with soaking your hands in warm soapy water, which helps soothe and soften dead skin cells. Your nails are then cleaned and trimmed.

Before moisturising lotion is applied to your hands, the manicurist massages your hands gently and finally, the regular manicure is finished with the application of nail polish - base coat, base coat and top coat.

The "square oval" shape is sometimes known as a "squoval", a term coined in 1984. The squoval is considered a sturdy shape, useful for those who work with their hands. Every nail has its own shape and the professional who makes the manicure can choose together with the client which shape will suit the person the best.
