I have a total of 4 years of tutoring experience, with both tutoring agencies and in private tuition. I have taught GCSE and A level students across a variety of exam boards, namely Edexcel, AQA, OCR and JWEC. My students have gone to excel in their chosen subjects with significantly improved results.
As a tutor I use a webcam via Skype or Zoom to communicate with my students and a virtual whiteboard to write and explain as I go along. As part of my teaching many of my students have given me positive feedback of how homework and lectures aid and reinforce their learning outside tuition classes.
I usually correct the homework and highlight the corrections before starting a new subject material to ensure my students feel confident that they have mastered a topic before moving ahead. I also make PowerPoint lecture slides and handouts for my students which I am always more than happy to email. After covering the syllabus content, I usually leave ample time to discuss past exam paper questions and how to answer them.
The core principle of my lessons is to first and foremost lay a foundation for the subject material for my students and then to build up the complexity. I highly encourage understanding scientific principles rather than rote memorisation to my students.
I believe learning should be tailored to every students’ individual needs and requirements and they should enjoy the learning material.
"Henry was a fantastic tutor with comprehensive knowledge of not only the A-Level syllabus, but also the content required to sit MAT/STEP for admissions into maths course. He understood our needs well and was able to provided targeted support and helped out immensely with not only maths skills in general, but also the university admissions process." (J. Wei, Sep 2020)
"Henry has been tutoring my daughter Maths for around 6 months now. Henry is not only extremely good at Maths but is also excellent at teaching the subject effectively. Henry's passion for Maths is quite contagious and has very quickly turned around my daughter's negative attitude towards Maths to her now considering Maths for her A levels! That is quite an incredible achievement by Henry and I cannot thank my lucky stars enough to have found Henry. We have been strongly recommending Henry for Maths tuition to our close friends and family and would like to do the same on here." (B. Nanu, June 2018)
"My daughter in Year 11 has struggled with specific Maths topics such as graphs, circle theorems, and polygons. I wanted to find a tutor with capability and awareness of the current GCSE syllabus. Lucky for us we found Henry’s profile and got in touch. His approachable, calm and clear style, and excellent knowledge, has already had an impact and I can see a renewed confidence in my daughter. She is even considering Maths at A Level! I cannot rate Henry as a GCSE Maths tutor highly enough." (J. de Villiers, Oct 2018)
"Henry has been a huge help in getting my daughter confident in maths again. He has been patient and his approach to filling in the gaps and teaching exam techniques has helped improve test results - this will hopefully put her in a good place for the final A level exam. Thank you!" (D Shingadia, Dec 2018)
I have 22 years teaching experience. I have taught Chemistry to GCSE, BTEC and GNVQ and A Level Chemistry to Year 12. I have also taught Biology to GCSE Level and Physics to KS3 Level. I have Primary experience in both KS1 and KS2.
I have a number of year tutoring experience for Chemistry and all my tutees have passed their GCSE.
Lesson will consist of prepared notes which will be discussed during the tutoring sessions. There will be supported by use of worksheets and then exam style questions. Each lesson will be based on specific areas of the syllabus that is intended to support the work that is being undertaken in the classroom. This will follow the part of the syllabus being taught in the classroom, to support and re-inforce student learning.
I use videos to support learning and these will be showed used a laptop. I will use a projector (if it is possible). If the student wishes to only look at specific areas if the syllabus, then I will undertake to produce material to support this request.
I gained membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry and have undertaken volunteer work for them. I also volunteer in the Science Museum in South Kensington for the last 8 years.
University of Cambridge for the Cambridge Festival of Ideas and the University of Cambridge for the Cambridge Science Festival.
Due to current Covid restrictions I undertake lessons via www.*** ;
Kerry has been teaching science for 20 years, from key stage 3 science to biology, chemistry and physics A levels. She has also taught rural science and astronomy GCSEs. Consequently, she is very experienced at teaching a range of science qualifications to students of widely differing abilities and backgrounds.
Kerry has been a Head of Science for 11 years in both a large comprehensive state school and a smaller private school. Between these posts, she was an Assessment Manager for Cambridge International Examinations where she managed the production, marking and grading of a suite of GCSE level examination papers and mark schemes, a role that she has continued on a consultancy basis, writing, revising and vetting examination material. This role has given Kerry a detailed knowledge of how assessment principles are used to design examination questions and how students should respond to these in order to secure maximum marks.
Kerry has a patient, positive approach to teaching. She aims to boost students’ self-belief and make them more resilient learners. Although there is a scientific robustness to Kerry’s teaching, most of all, she aims to make science enjoyable to her students.
I have been a science teacher for 25 years in the South East Essex area. I live in Burnham-on-Crouch with my wife and our 3 sons aged 20, 17 & 15. I understand the challenges faced by pupils with the current science syllabus and my aim is to break down difficult topics into manageable and understandable components. I am passionate about science as a subject and I aim to be engaging in my style of teaching. Throughout my career my lessons have been graded as `very good` by inspectors and professional colleagues. As a teacher my priority is always to help students achieve their goals, if this means I need to mix up my teaching styles and tackle topics from a different angle I will do so.
