Singing is healthy and good for the soul!

Just SingingJust imagine that feeling when you can belt out one of your favourite songs. Or when you feel elated and celebratory and want to tell the world. Conversely, when feeling low and contemplative or sad — being able to put this into song is a healthy solution to difficult times. Singing has to be one of the most healthy activities known to man, both psychologically and physically. Singing lessons can be a lot of fun, as well as healthy.

So what can music lessons " href="/search/music-lessons" target="_blank">Private music lessons offer?

  • Breathing — Sounds obvious, but if you ask any voice teacher what the first topic they will cover in a voice lesson is, you will hear an overwhelming response of “breathing!”
  • Diction — How to use your mouth to pronounce.
  • Posture — The way you stand or sit while singing directly correlates with proper breathing techniques.
  • Tone and intonation — How to express a feeling.
  • Creativity and conclusion.

On your initial lessons, you will:

  • Get to know your voice.
  • Talk about your goals.
  • Sing and get feedback.
  • Correct and develop your technique.
  • Practice.
  • Have fun!

It’s not all about the song, though. A voice teacher’s purpose is to identify vocal faults and correct them. Ultimately, this has benefits when faced with public speaking appointments or even being able to project across a playground or playing field. A voice coach essentially is a music teacher who helps singers prepare for a performance, often also helping them to improve their singing technique and take care of and develop their voice. Vocal coaches may give private music lessons or group workshops to singers. They may also coach singers who are rehearsing on stage, or who are singing during a recording session. Vocal coaches are used in all styles of music but, while some vocal coaches provide a range of instruction on singing techniques, others specialise in areas such as breathing techniques or diction and pronunciation.

Sometimes, hearing that you're doing something wrong can be uncomfortable. Your teacher isn’t trying to hurt your feelings; they’re trying to teach you how to be a better vocalist. This, in turn, builds confidence. Stand up straight and go forth — and sing from the heart!
