Our Premium member Sean from Online Economics Tuition has kindly written the following article for us to share.
“Whilst I have tutored both Business Studies and Economics for 23 years, I have enjoyed the experience of working online with young adults from all four corners of the world for over a decade. During that time, I have seen a number of benefits that this brings to both students and their families – often giving them that competitive advantage over their peers.”
So, what are these benefits:
1.Time effective and enhances safeguarding requirements.
The joy of being online is that there is no ‘dead-time’ travelling to and from a Tutor’s house – adding to the burden of an already busy day at school. A one-hour lesson does not end up being 2 hours+ once travel time has been factored in. As a parent, I am reassured when my own daughter has online support as I can be there and do not have to worry about her travelling in the evening. Even better, is that it does not add to the burden of my day. This is something that the parents of my students regularly tell me.
2. Flexibility of planning
Student and tutor have far more scope to organise lessons that suit both parties – this really supports my students as they can pick a time and day that suits them and are not tied to parents or public transport to get them to the Tutor’s house or Study Centre
3. Supports personalisation
One of the great things about tutoring Business Studies and Economics is that the subjects are constantly changing – so the ability to be flexible and respond to student’s needs and questioning during a lesson is a must. This is the beauty of working online – an unexpected question can always be explained visually with a real-life example at the click of a button. This results in giving my students the edge over their peers in the lead up to their examination. Unfortunately, this is not always possible with Face-to-Face as there is a limit on what you can take to a lesson.
4. Global Reach
The greatest joy of tutoring online is that it allows me to work with young adults from around the world – each one of them with differing experiences. This not only improves my teaching but gives me greater job satisfaction as my student in Russia would not necessarily benefit from the same example that I would use for my student in Brisbane – therefore, this improves my teaching and enhances the learning experience for all my students
