I teach English language and music. First, my experience of teaching music. I have extensive experience of working with students at all levels. I have undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in music. I have taught music for the Open University and currently teach music for Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, where my specialty is the history of opera. I am also a senior member of the examinations team for music at the International Baccalaureate Organisation, with particular responsibility for the extended essay in music ( a subject I have written a guide on). My role with IBO involves setting the standard for the extended essay, in consultation with my colleagues, and then leading a team of examiners with the aim of ensuring that the standard is adhered to. I am a trustee of the Society for Music Analysis, the UK's leading learned society for the promotion of the study of music analysis. I have contributed papers to international conferences and founded Theory of Music Ltd a not-for-profit company which provides free and low-cost resources for the study of the history and theory of music. I have extensive experience of teaching online as well as face to face. I am particularly interested in teaching music history and theory.
Second, my experience of teaching English language. I have extensive experience of teaching adult students. I have taught corporate clients for the past 10 years and for the previous 4 years was an IELTS instructor for Aston American University. I taught students online worldwide and helped many students achieve the result they needed in the test. Lessons were usually conducted on zoom or Skype. I also wrote a PTE Academic Test of English course for Aston American. I have published degree level distance learning courses and occasional reviews, www.*** in the Times Higher Education Supplement. I very much enjoy meeting students from different cultures and helping them achieve their goals.
