Hello there,
I am a qualified English teacher with experience teaching in state and independent schools. In addition, I am a former School Principal with over 10 years of leadership experience. In addition, I have extensive experience in tutoring Key stages two to GCSE level.
Raising the academic attainment of students has been a deep passion and successful achievement - as a former Founding Principal of a school for 4- 16-year-olds, a teacher, and a tutor. I am up to date with teaching by currently teaching English on a full-time basis. I have significant experience teaching remotely. In addition, I have extensive experience in marking GCSE English Language and literature papers. Over a ten-year period, 98% of my tutees have gained entry into the elite Grammar Schools (a few students gaining scholarships each year too). During the last two years, 97% of my English Language tutees have achieved levels 7-9 in GCSE English Language and 96% levels 7-9 in GCSE English Literature.
I am well resourced in teaching face to face or online. An initial consultation with parents and the tutee and a view of the school reports enable me to gather necessary information about each student. Importantly, the tutorials enable me to get first-hand knowledge of each student and plan my lessons for the individual.

I have a great deal of experience as a tutor. I have been working at one of the UK's leading Grammar Schools for the past four years. I tutor maths GCSE and A level online. I have also conducted numerous online webinars/ webclasses and drop-in sessions for students across the country for A Level maths. I love to make maths engaging. As you will note from my qualifications and professional experience, I have taught all four subjects for some 35 years, at College, University, Sixth Form College and High School. While the majority of my teaching has been in the UK, mainly in Birmingham, London and Bristol, nevertheless I have also taught abroad at university in the Philippines. Additionally, I have been an A'Level Politics and History examiner for the former London and Oxford & Cambridge boards in the 1990s and early post-millennium decade. So also, have I written course brochures for the History and Politics Distance - learning programmes for the National Extension College, Cambridge. All of this has added up to my having acquired a broad professional experience, which I put to the benefit of my students.
My teaching style is very much subject and communication based, with the emphasis applying knowledge and essay skills towards achieving the best exam results. There is also a priority attached to reading and grammar skills, both of which appear to be neglected by the contemporary British educational establishment. Hopefully I can use my experience and robust teaching methods towards enabling students to gain their best performance in exams and careers. - Please also note that I am happy to tutor students on-line - ie. Skype (Preferred) or Zoom, and have a fair experience of this kind of teaching.
I am a native Chinese speaking fluent standard Chinese Mandarin and English and post-graduated from the University of Birmingham with a PhD degree. I completed a level 3 Diploma in supporting teaching and learning and secured a job as a Teaching Assistant over 11 years ago. I then went on to become a Higher Level Teaching Assistant and was responsible for covering whole class teaching. Whilst working in school full time, I completed an Early Years Degree at Warwick University. This enabled me to complete a PGCE with QTS at Coventry University and achieve my goal of becoming a qualified primary school teacher. I have worked across all year groups, currently teaching in year 5. I have a passion for supporting children and watching them engage with the process of learning, rather than focussing on one outcome.
