Hello, I'm Vincent N., a passionate mathematician and educator with a diverse background in Actuarial Science and Music. I hold a Master's degree (MSc) in Actuarial Science from Heriot-Watt University and a Bachelor's degree (BSc Hons) in Mathematics with Actuarial Science from the University of Southampton. During my time at Southampton, I initially pursued a Master's in Music (MMus), but unfortunately, due to an injury, I had to transfer to a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Music.
After completing my undergraduate studies, I furthered my academic journey at Cardiff University, where I earned a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Mathematics. My research focused on "The Risk Models with Non-Local Poisson Processes," and I was fortunate to have Prof. Nikolai Leonenko as my supervisor. This research culminated in a published paper titled "Risk process with mixture of tempered stable inverse subordinators: Analysis and synthesis" in the journal Random Operators and Stochastic Equations.
Beyond academia, I have had the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for mathematics as a tutor in the Maths support service at Cardiff University. In this role, I assisted students across the university with various mathematical challenges, helping them grasp complex concepts and excel in their studies.
Music has also been an integral part of my life, and I have honed my skills as a pianist and organist over the years. As a freelance Piano/Organ Teacher, I created customized teaching materials to cater to the unique needs of each student, fostering entertaining and engaging learning environments. Additionally, I served as an Organist at St. Nicolas' Church, North Stoneham, preparing and accompanying the choir for Sunday Eucharists and other services.
During my time as Acting Sub-organist at St. John's College, Southsea, I planned and played for college festive services, accompanied the choir during trips across the UK, and provided coaching to young organists. As an Organ Scholar at the same college, I played for regular services alongside the junior organ scholar while mentoring and coaching other aspiring young organists.
Apart from my academic and musical accomplishments, I am multilingual, being a native speaker of Chinese (Cantonese), fluent in Mandarin, and proficient in English. Moreover, I possess Grade 8 proficiency in Piano, Organ, and music theory, which further enriches my ability to bridge the worlds of mathematics and music.

Having completed A level Physics Maths and Chemistry and being an avid musician, I have experience in tackling a variety of subjects within these fields.
My ethos with tutoring is to work alongside my students, understanding each of their unique needs and tailoring their lesson to be as productive as possible.
When studying for my own GCSEs, I witnessed many of my peers struggling to comprehend some of the abstract concepts being taught. Consequently, I began to lead a revision group for several of my subjects; sharing my own knowledge and methods with my peers. These sessions showed to me how fulfilling teaching students can be, knowing you've helped someone reach their full potential. As a result, I was able to achieve an A in several of my subjects, including Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Studying music formally and singing for 4 years has provided me with a wealth of experience in singing, performance, songwriting and the mechanics of the voice. I encourage my students to find their own style in a safe yet engaging manner whilst improving their formal technique.
I believe when introduced to a new concept the student needs to tackle a problem in a way that they understand. By providing my students with as many tools to face the problem at hand, I believe this is where I make an impact.

I lived and worked in Spain from 2008 until 2023 teaching mostly English. I have covered all ages of students in teaching anything from fun grammar and vocabulary games to exam preparation. Exam preparation is something I specialise in and have helped many students pass exams through Cambridge main suite and young learners, Trinity, TEOFL, IELTS and GSCE.
My values in teaching other people are very important and I stand by them with every pupil. It should be at least a little bit fun too! For people to want to learn, there needs to be some curiosity in the mind and curiosity is a fundamental part of being human. It makes us think and say” Hey, what’s this?” or “What 's that? It’s the real gateway to knowledge. Nevertheless, it can only happen when a certain door is opened and questions asked. It’s those questions that fire and excite the mind!
Using my knowledge and experience of having taught all ages of the Primary Curriculum - from Nursery to Primary 7 - along with my passion for working with children, I strive to provide the very best level of teaching and learning for every individual I work with. I believe that building solid basic foundations in Literacy and Numeracy gives children the tools to access the wider curriculum with confidence. Tapping into and understanding the ways in which each individual child learns and progresses is key. Every child is an individual, therefore every lesson is tailored to the child, ensuring the right balance of success and challenge is met in each session, thus developing knowledge, skills and most importantly confidence for the child. Getting to know children and building a rapport with each individual is paramount, as is understanding the way in which the each child learns best - through active learning, written methods, talking, listening, reading, watching, doing. The initial tutorial session will be exploratory, consulting with parents to discuss the child’s requirements and areas needing more support and development. I use a variety of resources during tutorial sessions to aid and reinforce teaching points - for example, magnetic alphabetic letters and boards; flash cards; Dienes hundreds, tens and units cubes; Numicon; Seal Maths; Jolly Phonics; Oxford Reading Tree books; Read, Write, Inc resources; Schofield & Sims and CGP workbooks. Each tutorial session starts with a welcoming ‘check-in’ as to how the child is feeling that day and how their day has been, so that I can gauge the expectation for the session. I usually ask if there is anything in particular that the child wants to work on during the session - for example, there may be something that has been introduced in class at school that day/week that the child found confusing or difficult and wants specific help with or further explanation. I would then suggest a plan and learning intention / goal for our tutorial session that day. Teaching would then take the form of practical, written and oral work, ensuring understanding and comprehension as the lesson progresses. The pace of the lesson is very much tailored by my professional judgement and intuition as to how the child is responding and interpreting the work we are doing. A plenary at the end of the session to recap what we have worked on during that session and ensure understanding, is always extremely valuable. In consultation with parents, some request homework for their children, which I am happy to assign and mark. Weekly sessions are most successful, ensuring continuity and progression at a greater pace.

I am a Uni student currently studying drama at Queen Margaret University with hopes to pursue a Musical Theatre career afterwards. I am a Madeirian Portuguese that have recently retired and have an interest to teach Portuguese.
I have a Bachelor of Science with honours in cellular and molecular biology, human biology, drug design and synthesis, infectious disease, psychology and biological psychology.
My postgraduate qualification is a master’s in public health nutrition. This involved the study of human nutrition, clinical science, epidemiology, statistics and public health policy as well as behavioural change psychology.
I have tutored independently for a decade now. Including home schooling for my son during lockdowns. My focus is always on finding the right learning style and tools for each student. For example, I created interactive online flashcards systems for the Scottish Curriculum. Which students can use to play games to solidify their learning. I try to find videos and other materials that may help those finding a particular area challenging. We all have our own learning style and sometimes finding the right format can be a true light bulb moment for students. I find coming to lessons with multiple different formats has really helped my earlier students grasp concepts they were struggling to understand with textbook learning.

BACKGROUND.
Born in St. Andrews, O’Donnell is an award-winning Scottish painter. After 18 years of professional practice in Northern Norway, she now has her studios in Spain and Scotland.
With a Masters in Contemporary European Fine Art, she is an accomplished lecturer and curator, and parallel with her own art practice, spent five years as Director of Galleri NordNorge, the Gallery of Northern Norway, collaborating with museums and galleries such as the National Museum of Art in Oslo, showing work by Paul McCarthy, Norway 10 Designers and established international artists, while providing a platform to emerging. She has many years of experience on the boards of industrial, commercial and creative organizations such as NNBK (North Norwegian Artists’ Union), Innovasjon Norge's Creative Development Project, and the Foundation of Sierra de Libar in Spain. Sitting on collection committees of Sparebank1 NN Art Foundation and art consultant for KORO, Norway's department of art acquisitions, she has had the honour to commission artwork and contribute to advancing the careers of Norwegian artists.
MY ARTWORK.
Although the artwork shown on my website is abstract, I chose a traditional academic route. I studied Drawing and Painting, at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA). It was founded in the 1760’s and followed the academic structure of The École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and I wanted to learn fundamental skills and submerge myself in the history of the craft. We studied anatomy from life models and classic casts of Roman and Greek sculptures, head-life, drawing and painting techniques, and materials. Our Art Humanities, which included highly entertaining Tableau Vivant, was modeled after Gombrich, and stopped at “The Triumph of Modernism”. With this conservative teaching, contemporary art was disregarded, so I was sceptical of it. It took studying for my Masters in Contemporary European Fine Art in Barcelona to understand that the fundamental skills I learned served me well in my practice but are not necessary for other art forms.

My belief is that visual art, apart form developing artistic skills and understanding, it can contribute to personal growth, give a sense of belonging, give joy and an increased emotional and creative capacity. Kunstrom 7 (Artroom 7) Trastad Samlinger | Sør-Troms Museum, Norwayntract.
Kunstrom 7 was a collaboration with Trastad Samlinger (Art-Cultural-Historical Museum) and Rå Videregåendeskole (College of Higher Education). We created an art college equivalent foundation course in visual arts for students with special needs; three young teenage girls with Downs Syndrome and an adolecent boy with severe autism. The course provided adapted training for the development of their skills in visual arts to prepare them for their future professional, artistic practice.

My remit was to give a solid foundation in the technical and traditional skills of drawing and painting, art history and theory, while encouraging the students to explore the boundaries of visual arts, expand and challenge their thinking in content, form, methods, and processes. I was fortunate to collaborate with artists, Film-makers and theoreticians from across the Nordic countries and Europe, who visited as guest tutors.

Seven year freelance Contract
With the North Norwegian Art Centre (NNKS) I regularly developed and organized workshops and lectures for various age groups for the national initiative to introduce all pupils to the experience of working with professional artists. I travelled over the whole of the three Northern Regions north of the Arctic Circle.
Bags First Aid specialises in First Aid training for those working with babies, children and young people. We provide training to schools, nurseries, after-school clubs, youth clubs, Duke of Edinburgh Award groups, childminders, nannies, parents and community groups. Each First Aid course allows practical hands-on experience using casualty simulation and resuscitation manikins. Childcare courses use special baby and child manikins. Training classes are small with no more than 12 participants. This ensures a friendly relaxed atmosphere and individual attention. As well as Paediatric First Aid Bags offer First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid courses.
From the 2014 year I had managing positions at Bohdan Khmelnytskyi State Pedagogical University: Deputy Dean of the Philological Faculty for Educational Work (2012); Deputy Dean of the Philological Faculty for International Cooperation and Scientific Research(2015); Head of the Department of German Philology (2020). My tasks were to develop the faculty and manage students and staff. In 2016 I initiated the Educational Program “German Languages and Literature (including translation)” and in 2022 we got a positive accreditation of it. There are more than 100 students who got Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree. From 2021 to 2022 I was managing the Educational Courses for Children. I had four tutors under my supervision. Children improved their results in school and high school students successfully entered Universities.
As a lecturer, I always had to develop my professional skills and my students’ hard and soft skills. After my attendance international internship, my colleague and I organized a workshop for the staff and students of pedagogical specialties on how to develop soft skills during the classes and educational process. I have well-developed management skills, computer proficiency, leadership experience, communication skills, organizational know-how, collaboration talent, and problem-solving abilities.
As an experienced teacher, I am sure that respect is the most important component in any relationship. As a linguist and citizen of a multicultural city, I know how valuable to respect other cultures, nationalities, and their diversity.
As the Deputy Dean and the Head of the Department, I took part in the organization of various events, such as Ukrainian and International scientific conferences. I organized meetings and greeted people, providing their connection with each other, we always openly shared knowledge and skills to help each other to develop.
In 2014 I initiated an international project Double Diploma with the University College of Social Sciences (Chenstokhovo, Poland). As a result, nine students got Bachelor’s degrees and five students got Master’s Degree in Business English.
Most of my previous administrative work was related to arranging meetings, visits, and events, including requesting and issuing documentation, assisting in the editing and publishing of documents to promote the faculty, and advertising the Department's achievements.
As an administrative person, I had to support staff and students, contribute to their development, and at the same time explain or pass on complex or detailed information precisely and clearly to all participants of the educational process. Excellent time management and organizational skills and my ability to work under pressure helped me to communicate with different people and successfully run the Department.
