I recently completed a masters degree in civil engineering at the University of Bristol, and have since worked as a structural engineer for 15 months. At A-Level, I achieved an A* in mathematics, an A* in physics, and an A in chemistry. At GCSE level, I achieved 9A*s and 1A, including an A* in maths. My name is José María de Lucas Sacristán, though most know me as Chema Sacristán. I've been a professional drummer since 2004. I'd like to share a brief biography of my career in the U.K. In 2002, at 19, I realized my love for music and moved to Bristol, U.K., where I lived for four years. Bristol exposed me to all sorts of music, including rock, jazz, world music, and more. I played my first shows and worked with over five different local bands, gaining valuable experience. In 2006, I moved to London to study at Tech Music Schools, known as "Drum Tech," where I completed my higher education and earned a BMUS in Popular Music Performance (Hons), licensed by West London University. After completing my degree in 2011, I worked exclusively as a performing drummer and drum teacher, giving private lessons in my own studio, Oktopus Music Services, in North West London. In the past nine years, I've had the privilege of performing, recording, and writing with some of the best musicians in the London and U.K. scene, such as Kevin Glasgow (one of Europe's best bassists), Robin Banerjee (Amy Winehouse's guitarist), Roberto Manzin (Zucchero), Felipe Martíns (Emeterians), Juan Whist (The Voice National Spanish TV), and many others. I've showcased in most of London's live music venues and with the best U.K. and European entertainment agencies, such as Scarlett Entertainment, Full Stop Entertainment, and more. Learning a language is the process of understanding which involves all the fours apprehension skills of listening, writing, speaking, reading which makes the entire process a very effective means to train your brain, but most of all is an entire unique psychological and emotional experience. My priority is tailoring each of my lessons according to individual students, which is a key aspect of one-to-one tutoring. I also use questions and homework to check understanding continually. I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student`s understanding and technique.
I always take a student-centered approach to teaching by asking students to bring their notes and talk me through the topics they feel are most difficult. My aim as your tutor would be to identify your strengths and weaknesses and build upon these appropriately. I would incorporate past paper questions very early in the curriculum to assess how well a child can apply their knowledge to answering exam questions. This will ensure that by the time the exams are sat the student will be fully prepared.

I have had several years experience teaching Classics in the UK and am now completing my MA in Classics alongside my full time work as a Classics teacher in south London. As a key member I have been developing our provision so we now offer A Level Classical Greek for the first time in several years! One of the areas I particularly enjoy working in is successfully supporting young students as they prepare for entrance exams with previous experience in particular for St Pauls Boys and Winchester College. If required, I can also provide lessons, tutoring, or general support in English and History, if needed.
My A Level classes of 2022 all scored highly in their exams - 100% A*s in Latin and 100% A-C in Classical Civiliation.
In 2023, my GCSE and A Level classes continued to excel despite the return to 2019 standards and reduction in exam support from the boards, and I am incredibly proud of them all:
GCSE Classical Greek 80% 9-7
GCSE Latin 80%+ 9-7
A Level Classical Civilisation 85% A*-C
