I specialise in Online English tuition, covering all texts in the GCSE and KS3, along with essay writing practice and exam revision. My services also include online adult functional skills tuition. My mission is to help students become more confident in their English skills and to provide them with the tools and strategies for success.
A little about me in the school setting
My roles have allowed me to build on a range of areas that I have been interested in for some time. My focus on ‘pedagogy’ has been developed towards ‘praxis’ – the idea that one reflects and acts uponp ractice to transform it. What I have learnt is that a narrow focus on the classroom isn’t enough. Instead,an effective system is one which develops productive and synergistic relationships between learners,families, and the community, and that a deep understanding of the context in which you work, the locality and the culture in which learners live is crucial. I believe we have started on exciting journey here proceeding and developing positively on recent Ofsted feedback – building on those to ensure that learning really is a community endeavour in the best possible sense. My ‘curriculum’ will not stop at the door of a classroom, or the school gate but will be a transforming powerhouse for all living in the community. This, in practical terms could be parenting support in the form of coaching and peer support; providing evening classes in basic skills, parental revision classes to help them best assist their child. It could be using the school buildings as a base of local CPD provision, for meetings, for collaboration among local departments.

I'm currently an undergrad at Newcastle University, studying the Classics. My passion is for Doctor Who and almost anything to do with classic sci-fi and horror. I'm autistic, diagnosed since the age of 14, and so I have many experiences with other autistics and I frequently helped out with the Special Educational Needs department at my high school/sixth form. I'm a published author of horror short stories, as well as having featured on panels at FantasyCon and SciFi Weekend, with more stuff in the works. My subjects at A-Level were English Lit. (AQA), Theatre Studies (Edexcel), and Religious Studies (OCR). My high school had an internal mentoring scheme, where I helped 2 GCSE students with their English, the skills for which help with Latin and Greek immensely. For Ancient Greek, I taught a GCSE student from scratch for about 2 years, and as such created resources from scratch and would adjust my lessons on a weekly basis. For Latin, I helped the same student on a regular basis with their Latin, but at A-Level I was also asked by my Head of Classics to help the Y8s who'd joined late in the term by taking them out of lessons and catching them up on thr basic Latin skills they'd have missed. At university, I have mentored 7 different students in GCSE English literature on a weekly basis, across a wide variety of texts. Additionally, my love for Classical languages and English extended to me doing JACT's Durham Summer School between L6 and U6. That, apart from being an enjoyable time in itself and which is highly recommendable, exposed me to a lot of different teaching styles, and gave me great in-depth knowledge of the languages and the culture.

I am passionate about helping children learn and am highly qualified to teach children up to GCSE level. I have had experience teaching children with SEND needs also so would be able to prepare a bespoke set of sessions for any individual. I ask any pupil who is looking for tutoring to to complete a short baseline test to give an accurate current picture of where they are starting from. A meeting with parents to negotiate timescale and to establish end goals is essential. I am an academic by profession and I have been a personal tutor for 8 years on various website including online and in person. My goal is to share my knowledge with people of all age groups who are interested in learning a foreign language and humanities subjects either for personal exams or just for fun. I also aim to make my lessons as enjoyable as possible not just for the sake of breaking the "monotony" of classroom style teaching, but also because I want to engage with my tutees in order to help them achieve their best results in the most efficient way possible. Plus, I personally believe that everyone is competent and capable of learning any subject or language as long as the relationship between tutors and students are on the same page, and the lessons are made to be more engaging and reachable. I have been involved in photography as an amateur and professional for over 40 years. I owned and ran a professional chemical-based darkroom in N. Wales from 1984-92. Photoshop is considered the industry standard for photo editing. I would not consider myself a Photoshop “guru” although I’ve been using the programme since version 3. 0 in 1993 - There is always more to learn.
I liked to think I’m meticulous and concise, I always strive to do good work. I’m passionate about photography and the photograph. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and insight. I have done studio, landscape, stll life, events and product photography. In fact, it may be easier to say I cannot take photographs underwater or in space. Everything else I’m OK with.
