Raising the academic attainment of students has been a deep passion and successful achievement - as a former Founding Principal of a school for 4- 16-year-olds, a current practising English teacher, and a tutor. I am currently teaching English on a full-time basis and therefore have up-to-date knowledge in English Language and Literature. I have significant experience teaching remotely. Hi there!
My name is Valentine, and I'm a French violinist currently based in Abingdon (Oxfordshire), England.
I studied violin for six years at the Conservatory of Music in Nîmes, in the South of France, and passed my ABRSM Grade 8 Violin Performance exam. Over the past 2 years, I've had the opportunity to perform with various orchestras, including the Penang Symphony Orchestra in Malaysia (South East Asia), where I lived for nine months. I've also had the privilege of performing at private events, such as weddings, religious ceremonies, and birthdays. These experiences have enhanced my teamwork skills, taught me effective practice techniques, and deepened my passion for sharing music and bringing joy to others.
Now, I love sharing this experience with students of all ages and backgrounds, helping them grow and develop as musicians while ensuring they enjoy their time with the violin! I’ve been teaching violin privately for about two years to beginner and intermediate students of all ages, both online and in person. Additionally, I taught at a private school in Bouillargues, South of France, during the 2022/2023 academic year. I was a key member of the Documentary Resource Initiative – a not-for-profit organization promoting creative experimental independent actuality storytelling in India. DRI hosts an internationally acclaimed forum – DocedgeKolkata, Asian Forum for Documentary – where I worked as Head of Incubation & Training nurturing documentary projects through mentoring by international professionals. I was also Director of DRI’s travelling documentary workshop – Documentor, and mentored in the Let’sdoc Fellowship Programme for early-career filmmakers. Another major involvement was in initiating and organising the Dhaka DocLab – first of its kind international documentary forum in Bangladesh (started in 2017).

In general, I always endeavor to make Business as interesting and as accessible as possible! I try to fight the perception every day that Business is a 'boring subject'. With help from an enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about Business and lots of exam practice, I believe everyone find value in their Business qualification.
What separates myself from other tutors is the emphasis that I place on exam technique in my sessions. In my experience as a teacher I have seen students jump one or two grades ahead purely based on an improved writing style and improvement in their exam technique. With the new increasingly demanding A Level and GCSE qualifications now in place, this skill is now more important than ever. A student can learn their Business textbook inside out, but if they are unable to present their knowledge in the format that the examiner is looking for, they will not achieve their full potential in the qualification.
A Typical lesson of mine would include the following:
Memory Recall starter. Usually 4 minutes given to the student to answer 10 simple recall questions based on previous content. This is an excellent way to help students retain information they may otherwise forget over time.
Delivery of lesson content. A mixture of powerpoint slides, workbooks and other resources will be used here to deliver. I feel it is really important to have an example-heavy approach to delivery, backing up theory with real-life business examples that students can use in their own answers.
Exam Practice. This will typically include some modelling. Usually I will either model an exam answer and ask the student to complete a similar question afterwards, or a half and half approach will be used where I will complete part of the answer and the student will finish it.
Check exam answers. Together we will review the answers and suggest improvements to take forward.
