About Qigong

Qigong is an ancient Chinese exercise and healing technique that involves meditation, controlled breathing and different movement exercises that resemble martial-arts. It can be described as a practice that involves the mind, spirit and body while improving one’s mental and physical health. The Chinese traditionally view qigong as a way of cultivating and balancing one's qi (pronounced as “chi”) which is roughly translated as “life energy”. 

Throughout the years Qigong has grown in popularity outside of China as well. People around the world practice it for various different reasons such as exercise, relaxation, self-healing, meditation and self-cultivation.

What are the benefits of practising Qigong?

Although more serious studies are needed in order to conclude whether or not Qigong can help heal or prevent health problems, the Chinese practice certainly offers plenty of benefits. 

Studies have shown that regularly practising qigong can actually reduce some of the symptoms of depression. Not only that, but people have expressed feeling less anxious and an overall better mood. Furthermore, qigong is great for people suffering from fatigue. Although chronic fatigue can be very difficult to cure, many people have noted improvements after only a few months of following the Chinese practice. 

Another fascinating benefit of Qigong is that it helps boost our immune system. Different research has shown that the exercises actually help increase the levels of certain immune cells in people who practised it regularly.

Overall, even if you’re not looking for some of the long term benefits,  Qigong is a great form of exercise for people who want to improve their mental health and relax while at the same time getting in a light workout as well. 

Is it hard to start practising Qigong?

Absolutely not! One of the best parts about qigong is that it is adaptable for nearly all fitness levels. Regardless if you’re a complete beginner when it comes to exercising or if you’re a trained athlete, chances are you’ll quickly be able to learn and enjoy qigong. Furthermore, you don’t need any equipment and you can practice it virtually anywhere. 

While taking a class is always a great choice, it’s not completely necessary when it comes to qigong. Plenty of people choose to learn on their own by reading books or watching online videos. As long as you pay attention and follow the instructions carefully, you can easily learn how to do it properly on your own. 

Moreover,  it’s perfect for people who are just getting into exercising or simply don’t have a lot of time on their hands. Due to its flexibility you can easily fit in a daily qigong workout into your routine, regardless of where you are.
