I'm a professional Music lecturer and tutor, Guitar teacher and Bass tutor based in the West Midlands. As a Music tutor/instrumental tutor I have 1000+ hours of teaching experience, I hold a Popular Music Degree and in a College employment setting I have 14+ years experience of teaching college students from ages 16+ to adults in a range of levels (1-5).
I know every student’s journey is different, and my aim is to meet each student where they’re at, learning through Music we discuss their aims and develop the curriculum to develop their understanding.
As a musician I play in a variety of bands and performance situations as well as session work for bands and for artists up and down the UK.
I’m a Bass player for a Midlands based punk band who have released three albums and with this I have played festivals around the UK.
I play Guitar for a folk/rock band, a high end function band and also for a Queen tribute band.
As a teacher I work closely with pupils to develop personal goals, and work together on a simple plan on how to reach them. I believe understanding the reason the student is taking lessons and playing guitar/bass or embarking on other musical developments is fundamental to providing quality tuition, so I strive to create plans with the pupil to support their aims. Each lesson always keeps the pupil’s individual goals at its centre, and is created to develop musical fluency.
Ultimately I teach the student to teach themselves by understanding core musical concepts and developing a base of fundamental skills, these include; Ear Training - learning how to recognise the chords in any given song by ear; Strumming and Picking/Fingerpicking Technique - fluency with all standard right hand techniques is a must, and I teach these prioritising what is commonly used in their favourite styles; Reading TAB as well as Staff notation.
Creative Playing, Song Writing, and Improvising is my favourite area of playing and teaching as it helps learners find their own voice! I help to build knowledge of music theory in a practical and applicable way, exploring new concepts that will enable students to discover new sounds.
Again, this is catered to their aims - if they wish to write songs we'll look at some of their favourite artists/genres, see what they're doing, and set some aims for targets to write using some of their techniques.
If learners want to improvise, we'll explore some of our favourite improvisers - what scales to they use, how do they shape their phrases, and what articulation techniques are employed.
If learners have experience playing but need to improve techniques I can show drills and exercises that will make them a better player.
We explore a lot of aspects - from how to move economically; where to have tension and where to avoid it; tonal possibilities as well as how to structure your practice so you get the most for your time, whether you have a little or a lot.
I teach from my home in Vale Street, Amblecote, and also travel to my pupils to teach where time and distance permits (and where a suitable instrument is available for both tuition and practice between lessons). Currently I teach around twenty-five to thirty pupils per week, ranging in age from five to sixty-five. Lessons are usually on a regular weekly basis and range from 20 minutes (for very young beginners) up to an hour for more advanced students. Fees are tailored according to duration and location of lessons.
Entrance to ABRSM graded exams is encouraged (but not obligatory), as is participation in local music festivals each year. I believe exams are a means to an end but should not be an end in themselves. Understanding and enjoyment of the music performed are paramount, as is developing technical proficiency on the instrument. Likewise, I place particular emphasis on the experience to be gained from performing music in front of an audience, rather than the purely competitive side of music festivals. I aim to teach to the highest standards, and many of my pupils obtain merits and distinctions in both their practical and theory grades, as well as regularly achieving 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in their respective festival classes.
I aim to teach my students not only to become good pianists, but well rounded musicians. To this end, I place emphasis on developing good sight-reading skills and aural ability, as well as encouraging my pupils to adopt good practice habits from an early stage. Theory and history of music, including awareness and understanding of different musical styles and forms, is also something which I incorporate into my teaching, as is the compositional element - being a significant requirement of the GCSE and A level school music curriculum. Theory tuition is also offered separately.
By developing the above skills on the piano, I fully believe in helping my students to become self-sufficient musicians who can then continue learning and enjoying music for themselves. In addition, I believe this will help them develop skills relevant to many other disciplines, activities, and everyday situations, including: gaining in self-confidence; the ability to communicate and interact well with others; improving manual dexterity; and improving brain function (in terms of cognitive ability, lateral thinking, spatial awareness, and motor co-ordination skills) - even for those who do not go on to study or perform music at higher levels.

There will be regular progress reports, sticker rewards each week and medals each term for the most hard-working students. Success is measured on effort, not ability to ensure fairness across the board. Students will have the the opportunity to play at bi-annual concerts at a local venue with my other academy students. After a first class BA in music and a PGCE that specialised in instrumental teaching, I have taught continuously in Devon schools and privately at home for over thirty years.

I am a professional violinist, violist and conductor, studying for a PhD in Music at the University of Cambridge. As a Supervisor in the Faculty of Music, I teach undergraduate music students at Cambridge. I also teach conducting, violin, viola, and chamber music at the Saffron Walden Centre for Young Musicians in Essex. With over nine years of tutoring experience, I also offer private tuition in violin, viola, orchestral conducting, music, music theory, philosophy, history, essay and dissertation skills, english literature, classical civilisation and violin performance.

Approach to Teaching
– I favour a structured approach to teaching. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catered to the student's specific needs. I also inform the design of my classes through a constructive dialogue with my students. This enables me to structure my lessons within a curriculum that meets my students' specific educational needs, and serves to enable my students to achieve tangible improvements in their academic performance and musical ability.
Academic Tuition
– My academic lessons tend to be structured around specific sections of the syllabus, or particular topics that students require help with.
– I employ a seminar style format, in which I flesh out ideas with the aid of quotations, other audio-visual resources, and analytical commentary which my students can use to develop essays, essay plans, revision tools, and exam revision packs.
– I use Powerpoint to provide students with a variety of resources and visual stimuli.
– I structure my lesson plans with a view to providing short points of rest or temporary closure, in which students are able to ask questions about the content. I am also happy for students to interrupt the flow of the lesson if a burning question arises.
Musical Performance
– Violin lessons tend to be carefully planned to focus on specific technical aspects of performance. To train musicality, I often teach this through the use of Kreutzer and Fiorillo etudes, Dont studies, and also pieces of repertoire catered to the student's musical interests and technical requirements.
– I am open to considering student repertoire suggestions if they are particularly passionate about a certain piece.
Lesson Structure
– Academic lessons tend to be 45–60 minutes in length, but I can adapt my teaching schedule to provide students with additional support if needed.
– Typically violin lessons range in length from 30 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible: I am more than happy to devise a lesson structure that caters for a student's requirements.

I teach English language and music. First, my experience of teaching music. I have extensive experience of working with students at all levels. I have undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in music. I have taught music for the Open University and currently teach music for Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, where my specialty is the history of opera. I have taught corporate clients for the past 10 years and for the previous 4 years was an IELTS instructor for Aston American University. Joe began his musical journey at the age of six. Initially following the classical tradition, he completed his Grade 8 qualification before applying for higher education. Joe studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama between 2014 and 2016, under Mei Yi Foo. This period saw development in his command of the instrument and skills in accompaniment, solo, and chamber performance.
Forever drawn to a range of genres, an interest in jazz music naturally emerged. Joe joined the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire jazz programme in 2018, where he studied 1:1 with John Turville and Liam Noble. He also received band coaching from tutors such as John O’Gallagher and Percy Pursglove. These experiences helped to shape his approach to harmony, improvisation, and group playing. Joe continues to study and explore jazz theory in his own time.
In addition to his musical commitments, Joe runs Installed Events: a small business that supplies entertainment and AV hire for weddings, parties, and corporate events. My language teaching is based on the way in which classical languages are taught at Oxford, and I believe in the development both of analytical language skills and an instinct for the art of translation. For GCSE and A-Level, it is important for vocabulary and grammar to be secure, so I encourage a rigorous approach to language, but one that is interesting. I ask for a tutee to try their hardest - as long as they do, they will be met with an enthusiastic, patient, and understanding tutor, a tutor dedicated to his teaching and his pupil. My name is Panos, a professional musician hailing from Greece and currently based in the UK. I earned my Jazz Guitar degree from the esteemed Philippos Nakas Conservatory in 2014, studying alongside some of the most renowned musicians in the country.
In 2018, I decided to broaden my horizons and moved to the UK to pursue my passion for music. I graduated with a BMus in Music Performance and Production from the University of West London (UWL), where I gained valuable experience and expertise.
