I'm Charlie. I'm a UK qualified teacher with a degree in maths. I've been teaching for seven years, including in secondary schools in the UK, as a private tutor and four years as a secondary maths teacher in a Cambridge International School in Vietnam. My areas of expertise are GCSE and A level. I have experience teaching both online and in person. My experience means I understand and empathise with students going through this challenging and important phase in their lives. I endeavour to offer a challenging but not overly demanding curriculum that encourages students to enjoy maths, as well at make strides in their skill level. My sessions are mostly exam practice focused. My approach is based on careful observation of the student so I can determine their specific areas for improvement. The next step is clear communication, with the necessary adaptations, to guide the student to discover that they have the ability to pass even the most challenging exam questions on their own. Students will recieve weekly homework tasks. I expect students to arrive on time to lessons, with the necessary equipment including a calculator, well slept and ready to learn and to attempt all the work set for them.

I have worked in the education setting for the past 9 years; working with children of differing ages and abilities. In 2013, I qualified as a Primary School teacher and took up my first teaching post in a school in Devon. I taught a mixed class of Year 4,5 and 6 children over many years and got through many Year 6 SATs testing too. During this time, I was part of an Ofsted inspection where I was graded ‘outstanding’ in my teaching practice.
I then went on to teach at another Devon primary school where I taught a variety of year groups. Having trained as a Maths specialist for teaching at Exeter University, I became the Mathematics Lead for the Exe Valley Federation. During this time, I went on to learn more about the best methods to teach Mathematics along with taking part in a Mathematics Mastery research programme. I supported teachers and ran training in how to improve Maths teaching across the schools.
Whilst studying for my degree at the Plymouth University, I spent time researching in both Special Needs and main stream Schools to learn about child development. In 2011, I worked as a Learning Support Assistant at a Special Needs School where I worked alongside the Mathematics teacher to support the children’s learning in a way that would work best for each child in the school.
Tutoring has become a natural progression for me after teaching for many years. I genuinely believe that with the right support ALL children can succeed. Watching children make small steps of progress has been the key to my love of teaching. As a tutor, I can gently assess your child and give them the extra support to help them gain the confidence they need in school. Many parents have mentioned how their child’s confidence has improved since tuition, not only in the subject they were tutored in, but as an individual overall. This in many ways is as important as grades achieved. Through the improvement in confidence, a child can start to flourish and will start to get more out of their school setting.

My style involves first deeply understanding the theory behind concepts, and then putting it into practice. I put an emphasis on problem solving and being able to adapt to different question styles. I am flexible and can easily adjust my teaching methods to suit your needs.

I am currently a master student studying Data Science. I got three years experience in tutoring primary and secondary math as well as one year experience in teaching A-level and GCSE math. My lessons will not be full of working on math practical questions that is because I don't think working on lots of practical questions will improve the exam grades but understanding the way of solving questions. The way I prefer to enhance the knowledge towards a specific content is by fully making sensing to students of a question so that they will be able to solve similar questions.

Making learning accessible, engaging and relevant is, in my opinion, fundamental to the success and the development of every child, supporting academic achievement and the nurturing of fully rounded individuals to be all they can be. For this to happen, I believe that our curriculum needs to be a relevant and rewarding experience; adapted to ensure inclusion and providing the opportunity to develop academically and personally while experiencing success and challenge on a day-to-day basis. It allows pupils to develop their confidence, self-esteem, organisation, and determination which they can transfer into other aspects of their lives. It is from this desire to do well and lead healthy lifestyles that further success can follow.
I have always had a passion for PE as a subject with many different aspects and opportunities for the wide range of children in the school to be challenged and to feel success. This has led me to opportunities to work beyond the school, something I think is crucial in order to reflect deeply on all aspects of teaching, learning and school leadership as well as to provide varied experiences for our children.
Throughout my career, I have valued strong pastoral systems in schools; I have experience at guiding pupils through the peaks and troughs that school life can afford. Key to this support is good communication - between school and parents/guardians, between different staff members and, where appropriate, with outside agencies. Ultimately, I want to ensure that every child has a successful educational experience in my class and throughout the school.

I love learning and, equally, to inspire this feeling in others too. I also strongly believe that social development and creativity are as important as academic learning. If you are reading this, you must be considering getting help with learning of some sort, whether for you or for someone close to you. It would be a privilege to help!
I worked as a primary school teacher for 14 years and loved sharing the learning journey with the young people I taught. My approach is often playful – there is so much to be learnt using games and humour – and success relies on building relationships, agreeing goals and together working out how to reach them. Sometimes the goal might just be to travel forwards and enjoy the journey; at other times there may be a more specific target.
The best moments as a teacher are “the lightbulb moments” when something clicks in the learning and new connections are made. My goal is always to instil self-confidence in learners, to build positively on what they already know and can do, and to help them to believe that they can learn whatever they want to learn.
I am a qualified and experienced teacher. Although I have worked in secondary/ middle schools, the majority of my teaching has been in primary schools. I have worked in mainstream schools with a wide range of children. I have coordinated enrichment programmes for gifted and talented pupils. I have supported pupils preparing for grammar school exams. I have written and managed education plans for learners with dyslexia and dyscalculia, autistic spectrum conditions and other social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
As a class teacher, I taught across the spectrum of the National Curriculum, with particular focus on progress in Reading, Writing and Maths. As the school coordinator for the teaching and learning of English for many years, I rolled out various strategies to develop reading for pleasure and to make the learning of grammar and spelling fun, fun, fun! Prior to that, I enjoyed roles as the school lead on Science, History and DT. However, my guilty pleasure is a love of numbers, the application of Maths, in games and puzzles, and the Art of Maths.
I am a parent, the most important job/ experience in the whole world.
Prior to teaching, I was an architect. More recently, I have established myself as an artist, specialising in the publication of greeting cards and fine art prints.

My name is Beth and I am a passionate and enthusiastic individual, about to start my MSci degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Exeter. I have been working at a secondary school for the past year where I have collaborated with students, teachers, and parents to organise and deliver lesson plans tailored to the individuals needs in order to maximise progress and development. I worked with individuals as well as in groups of students, enhancing my communication and organisational skills to promote engagement and focused learning. I have used my knowledge from both GCSE and A-Levels, as well as my tutoring training that I have completed this year as part of the National Tutoring Programme and the experience I have gained in the past year to deliver quality tutoring sessions to help you reach your goals.
