Hello and welcome to my TutorExtra profile. I'm Emma, an experienced Primary School teacher with a specialism in Early Years. I am described as caring, nurturing and welcoming teacher and individual.
I have taught in mainstream primary schools for nearly 10 years and prior to this, I was a Nursery Nurse for a near by council, working for SureStart with children aged birth to five. Within in the Primary School sector, I have worked with all Key Stages but my preference and comfort zone lies within EYFS and KS1. I am an Early Years Lead teacher, which means I'm responsible for the Early Years department within my school and I also lead the phonics and early reading curriculum throughout school too. I am a believer in hands-on learning; using resources wherever possible to support the children's understanding, to deepen concepts and most of all have fun is something I'm passionate about.

After graduating from Newcastle University with a First-Class Degree in Journalism and Culture, I began a career in education through Teach First. I have since worked in a variety of different schools where I have shared my passion for learning with the many pupils that I have taught.
I am a fully qualified teacher with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and extensive experience in primary settings including as Head of Maths. I have a meticulous knowledge of the primary curriculum, having taught for extended periods of my career in Year 6 as well as in lower KS2 and KS1. Most recently, I have worked as a specialist Year 6 SATs tutor educating small groups and individuals to help them to achieve accelerated progress towards their academic goals and aspirations. During this role, I have worked with a range of children including those with SEN.
I believe that there is no one set approach to improving academic standards and that instead this should be tailored towards the needs of the pupil on an individual basis. For example, this could involve providing challenging and thought-provoking material or rebuilding a pupil's understanding and confidence from the ground up. At the heart of my philosophy, I believe that tutors should build meaningful relationships with their pupils and encourage a love of learning.

Firstly, I have over 25 years experience of teaching Mathematics to the 11-16 age range in Secondary schools. I have a proven track record of inspiring students to make outstanding progress and achieve good results in GCSE Examinations. I am skilled in assessing their strengths and weaknesses and identifying gaps in their knowledge, thus enabling me to personalise resources to meet the needs of each student.
Secondly, having been an examiner for GSCE Mathematics for AQA, I am therefore up to date in curriculum changes and requirements.

I have been teaching for the past 18 years. I have worked in primary schools across County Durham and have considerable experience in teaching across all the primary phases. I have lots of experience teaching pupils with autism, adhd, dyslexia, dyscalculia and emotional and behavioural problems. My approach is that learning should be fun, creative but also providing the essential skills all children need to make good progress. I am adept at planning sessions that cover the national curriculum requirements , but at the same time making sure I meet the child where they are in their journey of learning. My name is Anisa and I'm a Mathematics undergraduate student at Durham University. Once an intimidated student who grimaced at the subject, I've learnt ways to approach mathematics that allow me to appreciate the logic behind it. Maths doesn't have to be the 'difficult subject' and I'm here to show you and your child that.
My journey in tutoring mathematics has been nothing short of diverse. As someone who wants to share the joy from problem solving and who relishes in seeing their students thrive, there has never been a point in my life where I haven't been involved in tutoring of some form. From the age of 16, through volunteering opportunities and work, I’ve tutored in all sorts of environments - from after school classes and targeted group work to online one-to-one tutoring.
