The centre director Carol Milne works alongside a team of professionally trained teachers. Carol is passionate about ensuring all children are reaching their full potential and believes greatness is achieved not acquired. Conveniently located in the heart of Gateshead, we cater for all ages and www.*** programmes are aligned with the National Curriculum; supporting what is happening in your child’s school. These programmes include unique worksheets/text books and bespoke educational software for computer-assisted learning. The children work in small groups of no more than 4/5, however receiving one to one guidance with their personalised syllabus. This combination is proven to boost levels and self-confidence, allowing them to transfer the skills back to the classroom. For the more able student, their attainment is enhanced and consolidated, giving them a competitive advantage.

The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes enable children of any age and ability to develop key foundations for learning. Our unique study method focuses on enabling children to work independently, giving them confidence in their abilities. They progress through small steps to gradually develop ability and fluency before moving on to the next topic. Kumon study is not based on school curriculum or age, allowing children the flexibility to revisit and build skills where they need to and progress beyond school level where their ability allows. Unlike traditional tuition, Kumon study fosters students’ skill in self-learning, building confidence and lessening reliance on a teacher.
I graduated with a first in Primary Education (with QTS and a specialisation in Mathematics) in 2017. Whilst I spent most of my childhood in Germany, I have dual nationality and grew up bilingual speaking both German and English at home.
I started teaching and supporting others in subjects that interest me when I was a teenager. Aged 15-17 I mainly gave English tuition to the (German equivalent of) GCSE students and below, with an occasional Maths lesson in the mix. I then moved to England to complete my A-levels, where I was promptly employed by school to teach German language practice. I ended up teaching all the pupils doing AS and A level German in small groups in preparation for their various oral exams.
As I enjoyed teaching, I decided to pursue a career as a teacher (after taking a gap year of running the stable management in a small, family based tourism business in Spain).
During university I had 3 long term and many short term placements in different types of schools. My favourite by far was in a PRU (pupil referral unit), where I got to work in a small class with children often working years behind what the national curriculum requires. It’s here that I realised how much more I enjoy teaching one on one or small groups than whole class settings, as they allow me to get to know the individuals’ needs and abilities better.
Most of my placements concluded with the feedback that I am outstanding at supporting and stretching students with intervention sessions. I love to challenge people (young and old) to give their best. It’s amazing what difference a little bit of patience and support can make when tailored to individual needs. This experience in particular is what has driven me to start private tutoring again, which I have been doing as my main occupation for the last year.
Firstly, I have over 25 years experience of teaching Mathematics to the 11-16 age range in Secondary schools. I have a proven track record of inspiring students to make outstanding progress and achieve good results in GCSE Examinations. I am skilled in assessing their strengths and weaknesses and identifying gaps in their knowledge, thus enabling me to personalise resources to meet the needs of each student.
Secondly, having been an examiner for GSCE Mathematics for AQA, I am therefore up to date in curriculum changes and requirements.
Finally, I have a friendly and approachable dispositon and students feel at ease in asking me questions. I am able to conduct lessons over Zoom.
I have been teaching for the past 18 years. I have worked in primary schools across County Durham and have considerable experience in teaching across all the primary phases. I have lots of experience teaching pupils with autism, adhd, dyslexia, dyscalculia and emotional and behavioural problems. My approach is that learning should be fun, creative but also providing the essential skills all children need to make good progress. I am adept at planning sessions that cover the national curriculum requirements , but at the same time making sure I meet the child where they are in their journey of learning. I have a caring, nurturing approach but set high standards of achievement with all my pupils.
Whilst I currently teach Maths and English in Year 6, I have many years of experience teaching also in Year 2 up to Year 5. I have been teaching the Year 6 curriculum for over 10 years and during this time have taught not only whole classes but also tutored children during 1:1 booster sessions targeting the individual needs of each pupil. Using a range of resources, my aim is to make learning fun and meaningful and at the same time develop a child's desire to learn as well as building self-esteem and confidence.
I am a fully qualified maths teacher having gained Qualified Teacher Status in 2012 from Newcastle University. I previously studied Mathematics and Business to degree level at the University of Northumbria.
I have experience of teaching all ranges of ability across key stages 3, 4 and 5.
Throughout my teaching career I have gained plenty of experience of teaching the new GCSE specification across both foundation and higher levels. I have particular experience with AQA and OCR exam boards but am familiar with Edexcel too.
As a tutor I can tailor lessons to the individual student's needs to ensure they make as much progress as possible. I have access to a wide range of resources collected over 7 years of teaching and will be able to adapt my approach to suit your individual requirements.
