Hello! My name is Tamara and I am a primary teacher from Toronto, Canada. I have been living and teaching in the UK since 2015. I have taught Foundation Stage, Year 1, Year 2, Year 4/5 as well as covered across all other year groups in KS2. I also have experience teaching Functional Skills Maths to adults 16-21. These days, anyone who hears me say, "I love maths" thinks I've always loved maths but that's far from the truth. I struggled with maths and even failed my GCE in maths ( an equivalent of GCSE).
So many teachers tried teaching me but I just could not grasp the concepts because they used the same methods I struggled with at school and never worked on finding out what the cracks were in my knowledge. A house built on a faulty foundation cannot stand the test of time.
One day I met the greatest teacher in the world, in my opinion, because not only was he able to teach me maths but he made me love maths. The quote above pretty much sums up how he taught me. He started from the basics, no assumptions made and he used all sorts of new methods to teach me. He showed me that there were so many ways to learn any topic.
I retook my GCE in maths and got the highest grade possible, won an award in maths, studied engineering, taught other students that were tagged "hopeless in maths" and got my daughter ready for her GCSE in maths at a very young age.
It doesn't matter how 'bad' any one is at maths, if they have a desire to learn and time, I can teach them. I am not just any other maths tutor. I am one that produces results.

I have great experience teaching within the class setting and tutoring, both online and face to face, teaching a whole class, small groups and 1:1. I started my teaching career working as a reception class teacher, teaching 4 year olds, a role with a huge amount of responsibility, providing a nurturing, caring environment whilst also providing a love of learning. Methods of Teaching:
The vast majority of my tuition is learner led, meaning that each lesson evolves organically. Adhering to rigid lesson plans assumes a preconception of how to teach a certain topic to a learner. However, every learner is unique and should be treated as such, and so every lesson also needs to be unique.
At B. Tuition, it is about finding whatever works for your child. For example, if your child is competent with methods but struggles significantly with confidence we can work on a particular topic before it is taught in the classroom. That way the content of every lesson she walks into is already comprehended and ready for application, and she can then use the lesson to practise and reinforce. This builds her confidence. Lessons cease to be a worry and she can enjoy the www.***
With different learners it may be more beneficial to reinforce and consolidate work that has been taught in class. If your child is sitting exams within the next 6-9 months, it would be more valuable to review and work through past exam papers, identifying where marks were dropped, evaluating why and re-teach relevant topics. Past papers would, of course, be set for homework by me.
Why tuition is so necessary:
One contemporary issue of the education system is that although many secondary teachers are talented in the subjects they teach, they do not appreciate the struggle that some of us face if a subject does not come naturally. I have spent years honing my craft into making complex secondary maths and science and achievable for everyone.

All lessons are to be conducted in a family room, with the door open at all times. A responsible adult needs to be at home throughout the entire duration of the lesson and within earshot. This is for mutual safety and security.
I have an Enhanced DBS check, registered with the update service and happy to give my consent and certificate number to any parent to check the status of my DBS online as a certificate is only as good as the day it's printed.
Mileage is calculate at £1 per mile over 5 miles from Flitch Green. So if you live in the centre of Braintree, it's www.*** miles from Flitch Green so my rate would £45 for tuition and £4 totallying £49 for the hour.
