I offer tutoring in English, maths, biology, chemistry, and physics for students from primary level through to S6 and beyond. Based just outside Blairgowrie, I provide both in-person and online lessons via Zoom and other platforms.
With over 20 years of experience as a tutor, I’ve worked with learners of all ages in schools, community settings, and one-to-one sessions. I also have extensive experience supporting students with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADHD, and ASD.
Educated at the University of St Andrews and inspired by many great teachers—including my father, a senior lecturer in statistics at Dundee University—I’m passionate about helping students develop a genuine love of learning. I stay up to date with the latest research in education and continually adapt my approach to meet the needs of each student.
Outside of tutoring, I home educate my three sons, study for a second degree, learn new languages on Duolingo, and design knit and crochet patterns.

Qualifications:
Currently pursuing or holding an MSc or higher degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or a related field.
Excellent command of mathematics, including advanced topics such as calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, probability, and statistics.
Strong understanding of mathematical concepts applied in electrical engineering, circuits, signal processing, control systems, and related areas.
Prior tutoring or teaching experience is preferred, especially in a one-on-one setting.
Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt teaching methods to suit individual student needs.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
Organizational skills to create structured tutoring sessions, set goals, and track progress.
Reliable and punctual, with a commitment to maintaining a consistent tutoring schedule.

During these unprecedented times it is clear that education has been affected. As a tutor I aim to help pupils recover some of this lost time.
For secondary school students I can tutor english, geography, history, maths, environmental science, biology, and chemistry. This can include aspects specific to your school curriculum, for example english texts/poems your school teaches or chemistry topics you have struggled with and seek to improve.
For students about to start university I can help with university preparation. This would take the form of reviewing essays and essay writing techniques. From personal experience, the expectation for university work was significantly higher than secondary school. This development of your skills will help to make this transition easier and be reflected in your grades.
My previous experience tutoring ranged from helping a class A student reach full marks in chemistry, to a student attaining 10% in geography class tests improving to 50% after one month.
