I have considerable experience teaching in the UK and in various other countries around the world within Africa, Asia and the Caribbean in a variety of subjects from A Level to Key Stage 1. Most of my teaching has been at Key Stages 4 and 5 in Secondary Schools in the UK but I have also taught Primary children in preparation for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 SATs. I am a very passionate educator and believe in the importance of inspiring young people to develop a love of learning. It is so important to use any prior knowledge or experience to help students, whatever age, to understand, question and think about the facts, not just to learn them. I have an excellent track record when it comes to preparing students for exams - whether these be A Level or GCSE exams or Key Stage tests, and although my teaching goes far beyond 'teaching to the test' I do recognise the importance, particularly in a tutoring situation, of doing whatever I can to help young people to reach their full potential and achieve the best grades possible. Hello, my name is Anna! I am a graduate from the University of Cambridge with an MSci in Natural Sciences (I specialised in Chemistry, and my masters was in Surface Science).
I am passionate about teaching science and maths, as from experience, I have found some explanations of concepts hard to grasp due to specific terminology and/or notations. However, I also believe that with the right explanation, anyone can understand scientific concepts, no matter how complex they first appear.
I am a flexible, student led tutor - I am happy to be approached with a specific topic for a one off session, or run more generic revision sessions to help you feel prepared for your assessments!
Lessons are typically 30 mins - 1 hour, but I am happy to tailor times to suit your schedule, timelines and learning style.
I have tutored science and maths for secondary school students since the age of 16, and for A level and GCSE from 19. I also have also taught Python as part of my job as a Data Scientist to employees across the business. I am happy to tutor anyone of any age, and am able to tutor:

I am an experienced, qualified teacher and tutor of 20+ years. I am educated to master's level and have expereince teaching and tutoring primary and preparatory school pupils (ages 6 - 13). I can provide home learning support in all primary subjects as well as specialist English tuition. I have had success preparing pupils for SATs and entrance examinations for independent schools, particularly in Cambridge, (United Kingdom), though I am also familiar with Cheltenham schools. These days, anyone who hears me say, "I love maths" thinks I've always loved maths but that's far from the truth. I struggled with maths and even failed my GCE in maths ( an equivalent of GCSE).
So many teachers tried teaching me but I just could not grasp the concepts because they used the same methods I struggled with at school and never worked on finding out what the cracks were in my knowledge. A house built on a faulty foundation cannot stand the test of time.
One day I met the greatest teacher in the world, in my opinion, because not only was he able to teach me maths but he made me love maths. The quote above pretty much sums up how he taught me. He started from the basics, no assumptions made and he used all sorts of new methods to teach me. He showed me that there were so many ways to learn any topic.
I retook my GCE in maths and got the highest grade possible, won an award in maths, studied engineering, taught other students that were tagged "hopeless in maths" and got my daughter ready for her GCSE in maths at a very young age.
It doesn't matter how 'bad' any one is at maths, if they have a desire to learn and time, I can teach them. I am not just any other maths tutor. I am one that produces results.
ABOUT TUITION AND I:
Methods of Teaching:
The vast majority of my tuition is learner led, meaning that each lesson evolves organically. Adhering to rigid lesson plans assumes a preconception of how to teach a certain topic to a learner. However, every learner is unique and should be treated as such, and so every lesson also needs to be unique.
At B. Tuition, it is about finding whatever works for your child. For example, if your child is competent with methods but struggles significantly with confidence we can work on a particular topic before it is taught in the classroom. That way the content of every lesson she walks into is already comprehended and ready for application, and she can then use the lesson to practise and reinforce. This builds her confidence. Lessons cease to be a worry and she can enjoy the www.***
With different learners it may be more beneficial to reinforce and consolidate work that has been taught in class. If your child is sitting exams within the next 6-9 months, it would be more valuable to review and work through past exam papers, identifying where marks were dropped, evaluating why and re-teach relevant topics. Past papers would, of course, be set for homework by me.
Why tuition is so necessary:
One contemporary issue of the education system is that although many secondary teachers are talented in the subjects they teach, they do not appreciate the struggle that some of us face if a subject does not come naturally. I have spent years honing my craft into making complex secondary maths and science and achievable for everyone.

Safeguarding Policy:
All lessons are to be conducted in a family room, with the door open at all times. A responsible adult needs to be at home throughout the entire duration of the lesson and within earshot. This is for mutual safety and security.
I have an Enhanced DBS check, registered with the update service and happy to give my consent and certificate number to any parent to check the status of my DBS online as a certificate is only as good as the day it's printed.
Mileage is calculate at £1 per mile over 5 miles from Flitch Green. So if you live in the centre of Braintree, it's www.*** miles from Flitch Green so my rate would £45 for tuition and £4 totallying £49 for the hour.
