I was a police officer for 26 years and spent the final 7 years of my service as a trainer. I subsequently took a CELTA course and earned the qualification to teach English as a Foreign Language. I have taught at a number of Summer and Easter schools in the UK, and undertaken short contracts at language schools in Vietnam and Mexico.
During the COVID 19 lockdown I volunteered as an online teacher for the school in Vietnam, giving them one 90 minute lesson a week from home using Microsoft Teams.
I have also tutored several adults on a one-to-one basis and will always adapt both the content and style of lesson to suit the needs of the learner. I am happy to help for short term goals, for example IELTS or the Driving Theory Test, long term ambitions or just conversational English as required.

Studying both the English Language, Literature and Drama at A-Level has helped me gain critical analysis, research, and essay-writing skills. Studying Drama has had a huge impact on my life. For our devised performance, we decided to concentrate on women and how they are degraded and disrespected. Our piece was dedicated to women killed due to male violence. Drama has given me the skills for teaching as it has taught me how to deal well with ever-changing circumstances, teamwork, and keep myself and others motivated. Not everything always goes according to plan; therefore, being able to adapt to different situations is highly useful. I believe that keeping motivated is vital in education; when someone does not have any motivation, it can take a toll on others around them, too. I have a positive personality that can captivate individuals effectively while maintaining a professional manner. I was a part of the RAFAC for 4 years, encouraging me to strive for perfection. I was a primary school teacher for 7 years and taught all age groups, including several years in upper KS2, preparing children for SATs.
I work for agencies here working in schools, primary, key stage 1 and 2. I support children who are needing extra support in their learning. I love teaching children as they are so keen to learn and just are so excited to be learning.

I’ve been teaching now for 25+ years. During that time I’ve taught the whole age and ability range from age 11 to A level. Since 2011 I have been tutoring one to one and also small groups. So far all of my students have achieved their required grades.
I have taught in schools and colleges at home as well as abroad. I am still enthusiastic and able to tailor my lessons to suit all individuals, including those with extra educational needs. In my home I have a designated teaching room where I have all my resources too. As long as the student is within a reasonable distance I would be happy to travel.
As well as my vast teaching experience, I also write. My work has been published in The Guardian, The Times Educational Supplement and some online publications. I have also had a novel published - in 2014.
