I have been teaching in secondary school for approximately 10 years in Leicestershire. I specialise in Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish and French) and can teach any ability range up to A-Level in my respective languages.
I am also an approved GCSE examiner.
I have worked in a variety of school settings in various capacities, as a standard classroom teacher, a Head of Year and also someone who specialised in training of newly qualified teachers or initial teacher trainees.
I can also teach English language and literature.
My philosophy is that every student deserves to achieve their best and should strive for nothing less. I have high expectations and standards but have a laid-back and friendly approach in getting them to achieve this.
During the current COVID-19 situation my schedule is relatively light and I have a little more flexibility, that said from 15th June I will be returning to work so will have to reduce my availability accordingly to allow me to prioritise my normal classroom teaching.

As a poet and creative writer, I use my skills to support my students' engagement in literacy, improve their reading and writing and find their enjoyment and self-expression in English. I also hold a first class degree in Psychology with Cognitive Neuroscience and am very happy to work with Psychology students to develop essay writing, psychological theory and statistics/research skills.
I can offer sessions based on phonetics, spelling, reading and writing, focusing on the student's particular needs and using their interests to engage them.
Alternatively for older children, children who have a particular interest in writing and for adults, I can offer bespoke sessions on creative writing and poetry. These sessions will improve the student's confidence, encourage self-expression and develop them into a creative and skilled writer.
I have worked with children and young people for 7 years in paid and volunteering roles, leading and facilitating workshops to develop English and creative skills. I have a lot of experience in a range of learning disabilities, both with children and adults. Sessions can be adapted for students with visual impairments, hard of hearing students, non-verbal students, and students with emotional disturbance or challenging behaviour. I will get to know them, their strengths and their needs, and offer sessions which work in accordance. I'm also experienced in Makaton and semi-experienced in BSL.
I hold an Enhanced DBS check and positive handling training for working with children with challenging behaviour.

As a tutor, my approach revolves around fostering an environment that encourages active learning and critical thinking. I believe in tailoring each session to the individual needs and learning styles of my students, ensuring a personalised approach that resonates with them. My experience as an 11+ online tutor has equipped me with the versatility to adapt teaching methods and materials, ensuring comprehension and engagement while covering the rigorous UK curriculum.
Through the use of innovative tools and resources, I strive to make complex concepts accessible and enjoyable, promoting a deeper understanding of subjects. Moreover, my tenure as a tutor has allowed me to refine my communication skills, enabling me to convey ideas effectively and build rapport with my students. Patience, empathy, and encouragement are central to my teaching ethos, fostering a supportive atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and embracing challenges.
Beyond academic support, I aim to instill confidence and a passion for learning, nurturing not just subject proficiency but also a growth mindset. By creating a space where mistakes are seen as opportunities for growth and where accomplishments are celebrated, I strive to inspire my students to reach their full potential academically and beyond.

Rachel is a qualified Primary School Teacher (PGCE 1996) with a further qualification of Reading Recovery teacher (UCL 2015) in post since 2015 part time in school. Rachel stayed at home for several years to bring up her family and returned to work in school in 2008. She has been teaching one to one for over seven years in her local infant school, firstly with a Year 1/2 maths intervention before moving to Reading Recovery, completing her Reading Recovery training year in June 2015.
In addition to school Rachel has been doing some tuition from her home – all online via video link since the start of the pandemic. Her specialist area is Key Stage One, although she also has experience tutoring lower Key Stage Two children who were struggling with reading and writing and had additional learning needs.
She is mum to three grown up sons, the youngest of which isstudying for his A levels whilst the oldest is focusing on completing a degree in Architecture. One of her sons has high functioning Autism with additional needs, meaning she has a lot of personal experience in helping children who are on the spectrum and may require a different approach to their education.
Rachel has always loved reading and enjoys being able to pass on this skill to the next generation. In recent years she has attended some overseas volunteer projects in the school holidays to help children there develop their English language skills, enhancing their employment opportunities for the future.
Rachel is very much enjoying teaching online and is finding it to be an exciting new way to educate young people.
