Hello, my name is Melissa! I am a native English speaker living and working in Leicester, England. I am a certified TEFL teacher and I studied English Literature for 2 years at college (A grade). I have provided mentoring and tutoring in the English language part-time for many years. In the past, I worked as a face-to-face tutor, and I also have experience with young children in an educational setting. Since November 2020, I have been tutoring both adults and children (online) on a weekly basis with extremely positive results. I have also been volunteering as part of a community educational work for over seven years.
I am patient, friendly and lessons will be tailored to suit your needs. I can help you with grammar concepts, spoken/conversational English, exam preparation, reading practice/comprehension, spelling and writing skills. This is your journey, so I really want to understand what you'd like to achieve and help you reach your goals. I am very flexible and will work hard to help you achieve your goals! Give me a chance, and together, we will work hard and enjoy the process as well.

Hello!
I have worked in a small SEN school for the past six years as an English lead, delivering the KS2 - KS4 curriculum to my students. Over the past year, I have progressed within my role and become the Centre Manager within the Senior Leadership Team. Whilst working at my current school, I have become a Designated Safeguarding Lead and Safer Recruitment Trained. I am responsible for writing and reviewing the school's policies, managing the staff team and ensuring the school and teachers comply to government legislation.
I enjoy teaching and am passionate about ensuring the child fully understands the context of the lesson - I am willing to provide homework and extra tasks to support them.
Having worked in a SEN school, I can adapt my teaching style to suit the needs of the child and will always promote a positive wellbeing throughout the lessons.

I have been teaching in secondary school for approximately 10 years in Leicestershire. I specialise in Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish and French) and can teach any ability range up to A-Level in my respective languages.
I am also an approved GCSE examiner.
I have worked in a variety of school settings in various capacities, as a standard classroom teacher, a Head of Year and also someone who specialised in training of newly qualified teachers or initial teacher trainees.
I can also teach English language and literature.
My philosophy is that every student deserves to achieve their best and should strive for nothing less. I have high expectations and standards but have a laid-back and friendly approach in getting them to achieve this.
During the current COVID-19 situation my schedule is relatively light and I have a little more flexibility, that said from 15th June I will be returning to work so will have to reduce my availability accordingly to allow me to prioritise my normal classroom teaching.

My lessons inspire, motivate and challenge pupils to achieve their best. My pupils show positive attitudes and behavior during teaching and I build a safe and stimulating environment for them to learn.
I help pupils to progress by building on what they already know and identifying any gaps in their learning. I do this by using assessment techniques used in schools.
I have good knowledge of the Primary curriculum and can help your pupils achieve their best in all subjects. I am able to differentiate lessons to meet your pupils needs; this helps them to access their learning and remain challenged.
I have many years of experience as a Primary teacher and I hope I can help you reach your learning goals!

As a poet and creative writer, I use my skills to support my students' engagement in literacy, improve their reading and writing and find their enjoyment and self-expression in English. I also hold a first class degree in Psychology with Cognitive Neuroscience and am very happy to work with Psychology students to develop essay writing, psychological theory and statistics/research skills.
I can offer sessions based on phonetics, spelling, reading and writing, focusing on the student's particular needs and using their interests to engage them.
Alternatively for older children, children who have a particular interest in writing and for adults, I can offer bespoke sessions on creative writing and poetry. These sessions will improve the student's confidence, encourage self-expression and develop them into a creative and skilled writer.
I have worked with children and young people for 7 years in paid and volunteering roles, leading and facilitating workshops to develop English and creative skills. I have a lot of experience in a range of learning disabilities, both with children and adults. Sessions can be adapted for students with visual impairments, hard of hearing students, non-verbal students, and students with emotional disturbance or challenging behaviour. I will get to know them, their strengths and their needs, and offer sessions which work in accordance. I'm also experienced in Makaton and semi-experienced in BSL.
I hold an Enhanced DBS check and positive handling training for working with children with challenging behaviour.
