I have always had a passion for teaching since my first tutoring job when I was 14. Now that I am in university, I can provide a range of skills to help those who need it achieve the best results then can.
I have been tutoring English for nearly two years at all age groups from Ks2 all the way up to A-level.
I offer hour long sessions where I can offer sessions which are tailored to the needs of your child, wether this being short and engaging activities or exam preparation activities for a child who is preparing for their exams. After each session I complete a fully detailed report of our session detailing what went well, where we can improve and what we aim to cover in the upcoming sessions!
I take a pupil first approach and try centre learning around the child’s needs and Interests as I believe this is the best way for engagement!
I am a friendly and approachable tutor who is encouraging and is very adaptable to differing levels of knowledge and skill. I believe this helps me greatly in getting to know the students needs and making best use of the time we have together!
I also tutor physical education at gcse and Alevel where I am particularly knowledgeable as I have recently completed a degree in sports and exercise sciences at Durham.
I have also had experience working with SEN students where I have worked with ADHD and dyslexia and have some excellent resources which suit the differing needs of different individuals.
I am a highly experienced, fully qualified English Literature and Language teacher, both in the classroom and home environment, with additional experience as an examiner for international GCSEs and education content consultant for an international revision website.

I have three years experience as a private tutor to A-level and GCSE candidates. In addition, I teach undergraduate seminars at the Unviersity of Leeds in English literature. I have taught English as a foreign language at Japan Women's University and privately. My own research focus is American poetry.
If your child is doing GCSEs my key areas of knowledge for English are the books Macbeth, a Christmas carol and inspector calls however I have read many other books for children who just need a bit of extra support in English I can do anything from spelling and reading help to enable them to thrive when exam time comes i have a strong belief a child is more likely to learn when learning is made enjoyable and they can relate to there tutor Iv always been fond of English and it's a subject throughout school I exceld in I am now going on to do journalism in further education and I believe every one can exell in English with the right support.
With previous experience in tutoring and teaching, each lesson will be different tailored to the needs and focuses of the individual. They will include a range of learning techniques, activities and questions. From personal experience I know no two people learn in the same way therefore I am very adaptable to teaching in several different ways to ensure success for each pupil.
Each lesson can consist of 1 hour or 2 hours. Before each lesson, I will prepare materials based on focuses discussed. During the lesson, we will start with a quiz to obtain the current level of understanding and knowledge, moving onto some teaching of concepts and theory. Then we will focus on some understanding and practice questions. Ending with another quiz and discussions of next lesson's focus as well as feedback to pupil and parents if desired.
I have previously done 11+ tutoring, volunteering to help children's reading skills, babysitting and working in a nursery. All those experiences have helped me obtain some valuable skills of understanding the process of learning and different learning techniques as well as the approach to teaching children. Organisation is also a key skill I have which will definitely be helpful in the role as a tutor. I have a genuine passion for helping children learn and be successful as I personally understand no two children learn the same and there need to be more varied approaches in teaching.
A Qualified PGCE teacher with specialisms in English Literature, English Language and Classical Civilisations. I have marked GCSE English for a number of years, and have taught and tutored in a range of settings.
I have taught students with dyslexia, and have supported those who have taken alternative routes in education. My particular passions are in historical texts, gothic, dystopian and classical fiction.
As a previous classroom teacher, I understand how students can be distracted and if it's a tough dubject for them, I can help them find ways to focus and prepare them for GCSE, A Level and beyond. I aso like to get to a student at around year 8/ 9 to start to instill the English writing and critical thinkinf that will help them later. I mark GCSE's most years and so understand the needs of the examiner. I also love helping people understand these subjects better (and even start to like them!)
