For nearly 10 years, I have been working both as a private tutor and a schoolteacher, teaching predominantly Spanish and English to students of all ages and abilities in person and online. Following a lifelong love of languages, I studied Spanish and English Literature at GCSE, achieving A* and A respectively, and at A-level, achieving B and A* respectively. In 2015, I advanced my studies at the University of Reading, where, in 2019, I obtained my BA in Spanish and English Literature. In my year abroad, I studied in Mexico (University of the Americas Puebla) and Cuba (University of Havana). Since graduating, I’ve taught thousands of hours of Spanish and English online to hundreds of students, reaching the top of the Spanish tutor ranks on another platform and receiving dozens of positive, predominantly five-star reviews from satisfied clients across the continent. Knowing from personal experience how challenging learning a foreign language or mastering the art of essay writing can be, I aim to facilitate the process for my students by personalising my lessons to their individual needs. Raising the academic attainment of students has been a deep passion and successful achievement - as a former Founding Principal of a school for 4- 16-year-olds, a current practising English teacher, and a tutor. Hello, My name is Abby, I am currently 23 years old and I currently work as a 1:1 LSA (DBS checked) in a mainstream primary school setting where I specialise with children with additional needs ranging from autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other needs. For the past year I have also been working as an English tutor and have predominantly worked with GCSE students and one primary school child. Again ranging in ability, from teenagers with strong abilites who just need a bit of a helping hand, to students with autism who are struggling at grasping thier subject. I am currently taking part in a support club for younger children that have trouble reading. I believe it is extremely important to help others in need and transfer knowledge to those younger than me. Seeing the difference and improvement I can make in someone’s life is the most rewarding feeling I can think of. The program takes place every week, and the progress which my students make is something I am very proud of.
I have taken it upon myself to talk to them about what they found so off putting about reading, pick an engaging book, find out about their interests etc., to make sure that it doesn't feel like a burden but rather a fun and valuable experience. This helped me create a friendly environment and I was able to see a big improvement in both their reading skill and their attitude towards it. I believe that knowing when or how to approach an issue, as well as talking about things that might present an obstacle is of essence to success of any kind. Communication, however, matters not just for approaching any existing issues, but also letting a student know that you are a friendly face that they can speak to and feel comfortable around.
I have been helping neurodivergent students younger than myself with their maths studies, for one hour every week, for over a year. As a mentor I have learned the necessity of being able to put yourself into someone else's position and consider things from their point of view. Understanding how someone else is feeling and being patient with them, helping them overcome an issue is the most important and sometimes challenging part of mentoring.

I am a Spanish and English Graduate from the Russell Group University of Leeds with over 3 years tutoring experience. This began with a mixture of guided reading coaching, teacher shadowing and teaching EFL tutoring in Madrid for two consecutive summers. Here I was entrusted with independently researching and collating my own lesson plans to markedly raise the linguistic level of nine-year-old Alejandro. Within a week, Alejandro could form the second and third conditional clauses in English, a high-level requirement for a student of his age. Personally, this taught me that flexibility is paramount in engaging students and improving their confidence; there is no one-size-fits-all method to tutoring.

Within Spanish, my study placement in ‘La Universidad de Oviedo’ allowed me to grasp the colloquialisms and conversational that textbooks occasionally fail to master. Whilst I will provide you with the expected tools to meet the marking criteria, I also seek to inspire and motivate with the sense of joy and spoken confidence that I gained from my experience abroad. Other formative leadership experiences, such as teacher shadowing and guided-reading coaching, armed me with the skills to effectively communicate with Primary and Secondary school pupils in an assured manner. Through witnessing the linguistic improvements of Alejandro in Madrid and the ongoing development of my current pupil, I am assured that my optimistic attitude, paired with a thorough knowledge of my chosen subjects, facilitates the academic growth of others.
Within English, I am passionate about discovering the inner creativity in my students. Originality of ideas was the key contributor to my recent Dissertation success, as well as my A-Level achievements. I will thus not only hone the pupil’s articulate and engaging writing style but also cultivate confidence in their own instinctual ideas. For this reason, I consistently repeat the mantra that “There is no wrong answer” during my English lessons.

I have completed my law degree from the University of Birmingham with a 2:1 (65%) and achieved a distinction on the LPC MSc in Law and Business Management. My degree was extremely challenging but it is also intellectually stimulating and broadened my outlook. With three years of experience tutoring English to students from years 5-11 and Maths to years 5-7, I have built a great rapport with my students. They are my mentees and I love being able to give them tips and hints regarding their future education and sharing my learning experience with them. My lessons consist of going over content, watching a video together regarding the lesson content and then completing questions together. I find that my students enjoy watching a video as it breaks up the lesson and makes it a more interactive experience. My lessons are very conversational, as I allow my students to articulate their thoughts, have fun whilst still being productive. My interests and hobbies consist of reading, photography, meditation and exercise.
