I’ve been teaching now for 25+ years. During that time I’ve taught the whole age and ability range from age 11 to A level. Since 2011 I have been tutoring one to one and also small groups. So far all of my students have achieved their required grades.
I have taught in schools and colleges at home as well as abroad. I am still enthusiastic and able to tailor my lessons to suit all individuals, including those with extra educational needs. In my home I have a designated teaching room where I have all my resources too. As long as the student is within a reasonable distance I would be happy to travel.
As well as my vast teaching experience, I also write. My work has been published in The Guardian, The Times Educational Supplement and some online publications. I have also had a novel published - in 2014.

My name is Alexiane G., a 25 year-old French native speaker and fluent in English. I have an English Language and Culture Degree from the University of Lille. I also have a good level of Spanish.
I am currently working as a Language Teaching Assistant in a 6th Form College in West Yorkshire. I am teaching different classes, from conversation classes to prepare the oral exam for the A-level, to cultural classes for non-French speakers. In this role, I have been doing a lot of administration job as well as the teaching side, and managing the team of teaching assistants.
I have been tutoring English and French for a number of years now. I usually work with children from the age of 5 to the age of 18, as well as working with adults who would be interested in learning or improving a language.

I am a qualified teacher of English (GCSE and A-level) and Media working at a secondary school for the past two years. I am proud to work at a school which is ranked as the highest performing secondary school for progress in North Lincolnshire, Doncaster and Gainsborough for two years running and 8th nationally!
Working alongside an exceptional English team—who have moulded me into the teacher I am today—I have been actively involved in the planning for many exciting opportunities for children of all backgrounds and contexts to ensure they are stimulated, interested and making maximum progress. My NQT year and ITT placements during my training year have provided me with a variety of challenges, circumstances and experiences in which I have gained invaluable experience and skills, such as teaching A-level English, KS3 and KS4 English and Media, planning and team planning for lessons, split year group teaching and developing a wide range of assessment opportunities. Furthermore, I have gained skills in developing effective and constructive relationships with children in a variety of difficult contexts—personal, social and economic—and have established relationships with the hardest to reach pupils, equipping them with the confidence and belief to succeed (a principle which I hold as imperative to learner success). On the other hand, I have also had experience and success stimulating and challenging exceptionally able students in all secondary key stages right up to A-level. I currently teach a range of ability groups, from NSR (not secondary ready) right up to KS3 top set and A-level (most of whom achieved a Level 8 and above at GCSE). When teaching the highest ability students, some of whom are aspiring Oxbridge candidates, encouraging intellectual curiosity and scholarship is especially paramount and constitutes a crucial aspect of my teaching approach and philosophy—although standards are, of course, kept consistently high for all learners.
Teaching and Tutoring Approach
My teaching philosophy centres on cultivating a safe, challenging and stimulating environment for every young person. Not only this, but I promote an environment where all learners are confident, supportive and tolerant of each other's views. Moreover, building learner confidence and instilling a mentality that it is OK to make mistakes on top of promoting a general love of learning is integral to who I am as a teacher.
A chief aim of mine is always to ignite the intellectual curiosity of all students, as this is a prerequisite for any and all learning. English is a wonderful subject with unparalleled distinct benefits, and all content can be presented to students in a way that appeals and resonates with them. I believe English to be the only subject that can successfully hold a mirror up to the world and enlighten us all on the complexities of the human condition. It is much more than a subject where you just “sit and write loads” until your hand starts to cramp up, and I always try to convey and transmit that enthusiasm and love for the subject to all my learners.
Although my teaching is geared towards equipping students with the knowledge and practical skills to excel in their examinations, through rigorous instruction, assessment, retrieval and consolidation, all in line with the specific requirements of the exam board, I have never been the archetypal 'strict' teacher. I have high expectations for all learners, but I am extremely patient and adaptive to all students, as we are all complex beings who learn through different styles and at varying rates. Beyond this, I like to get to know all of my students and ensure that they feel safe, secure and confident. I believe that building good relationships with all students is imperative to learner success, and it is with this in mind that I strive to take the feelings and concerns of all students into account every step of the way and put the effort into them as people, not just as learners.

With over a decade working in education and private tuition, I have extensive experience in preparing students for National exams. Academically, I focus on English Language and Literature, French and Spanish. I also have a wealth of experience in successfully preparing students for the Foundation Tier Maths exam.
At GCSE and IGCSE level I have experience teaching all of the major exam boards including AQA, Pearson Edexcel, WJEC, CIE and OCR. There isn't a great deal of variation between the different boards in terms of content as GCSE level is largely standardised. Nevertheless it does help to be familiar with the variation in the emphasis of a particular syllabus and the format of the exam paper.
I hold a BA and MA in Modern Languages from the University of Oxford. My degree studies were in language and literature, with a particular emphasis on reading widely and engaging with the progress of European thought from the Renaissance to present day. I believe this deep background in literature and language has been invaluable in my teaching practice.
Professionally, I have work with many of the most reputable tuition agencies in the UK and overseas, specifically the Profs (UK), Modelex (Monaco) and Living Learning English (UK). All three are industry-leading, award-winning agencies with rigorous selection criteria for their academic tutors and the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. In addition to working with these agencies, as an individual tutor I'm a full-member of the National Tutors' Association, the national body upholding standards of professionalism and ethics within the UK Tuition industry.

We offer a free assessment. An assessment in English and maths takes around one and a half hours to complete. At the end of that time we’ll be in a position to tell you where your son’s / daughter’s strengths and weaknesses lie.
If you decide to enrol, we tutor in 80 minute blocks, during that time students will complete about 6 – 8 activities, some on the computer and some using the written curriculum resources we have.
We design an individual program for each of our students and aim it at their level of understanding to improve them as quickly as they can manage.
We tutor in small groups with a maximum of five in a group. However, we don’t teach them as a group, as each child has different needs and will be at a different stage, so they are all taught one to one and the tutor gives individual support and feedback on their work throughout the session. This promotes independent learning and gives the children time to think through what they are currently working on.
All our sessions are delivered in our dedicated centre, which provides a safe environment without the distractions that can be a drawback to delivering tuition at home.
Because we are Ofsted registered we can accept childcare vouchers, or Working Tax Credits can be used against the fees.
We run sessions on Monday to Thursday at 4:00pm, 5:30pm and 7:00pm and on Saturdays at 9:00am, 10:30am and 12 noon.
We would be very pleased to hear from you should you wish to book a free assessment.
