Over the last two years, I have been at Currie High School and have just finished a year of teaching English at George Heriot's in Edinburgh, teaching S1 to S6 students. I thoroughly enjoyed both experineces interacting with pupils, acknowledging the criteria for success in the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence (no matter what that means for each individual) and understanding how best to help the curriculum become more accessible.
It is important, i feel, to overcome an attitude of "I can't do this!" and to work on tools that enable a student to feel more positive about his/her/their abillities. I would start the process by building on existing skills and progressing to strategies to make the project or task easier to complete.
At the centre of all this is the individual - in a non-threatening and encouraging environment, i believe that confidence can be developed...leading to competence. I like to get to know my pupils in a working relationship and to move on from there.
I can assist with English and American literature, poetry, grammar, creative essay-writing and literary essays, oral preparation and improvement of vocabulary or conversation classes, any project or assignments on GCSE or Scottish Curriculum for Excellence.
Description: (work) I really enjoy tutoring and the interaction with young people it affords me. To work together to overcome a challenging aspect of the curriculum is enormously satisfying. Despite the seriousness of the task that needs completing or the skill that needs to. be mastered, a bit of fun and laughter is also important though. Learning needn't be dull!
Description (of me): I am young at heart, enjoy (cheesy) puns and sometimes the silliness (and oddness) of English. Obviously, I thoroughly enjoy reading, particularly historical novels and more literary works and despite selling all my books from South Africa, I am well on my way to creating a new, personal library here in Edinburgh! My lovely dog, Lucy, is 15-years old and a very important member of the household - she is actually in charge!
The history of the UK is incredibly rich and my partner and I are working our way through all the interesting and significant sights - so much to see, so little time. My Scottish grandfather was born in Kelso, and it has been emotional coming back here to explore "his" country.

I have over 20 years of experience in education. My specialism is maths and science but I have planned and taught English lessons as part of my daily job. I am based in Dunfermline, Scotland but have extensive experience working with online programmes and tutoring individuals and groups.
If you have heard of or used Sumdog, you will have seen my work. I designed the progression for the more than 3000 questions for mathematics and 3000 sentences for spelling. I can confidently find where a learner's strengths are and build on them and determine the barriers to progression and work with you to remove them.
I have designed GCSE exam materials for online platforms like Maths Made Easy and have contributed to a range of in person services so that they have a consistent approach to lesson delivery.
I look forward to hearing from you and working together to improve the attainment of your children and young people.

My latest position was a senior tutor and module leader for the Sino - British cooperation programs between Staffordshire University and Chengdu University of Technology and later University of Stirling and Chengdu University.
When the department announced its plans to expand and open cooperations with new universities and new degrees, I saw this as an opportunity to teach media and journalism on the digital media programme as well as help in setting up a new department at a new partner university.

I like to keep my lessons fun and interactive even though we will be online - think games, quizzes and role play. If you have a specific goal in mind I am happy to cater our lessons specifically to your individual needs, for example, exam preparation or help with CV/personal statement writing. The ultimate goal is to make my pupils confident in their English skills.
With previous experience as a journalist and researcher, I know how important it is to be able to speak, read and write confidently and efficiently. It is often how we make our first impressions to new people we meet www.*** job interviews, phone calls and important applications to university or college. Being confident in your English skills can also help you to integrate with ease into new environments. I have now received my TEFL certificate in English tutoring. Which means I use effective tools and teaching methods that have been tried and tested by tutors all across the globe. These methods are guaranteed to help you reach your English goals and leave you feeling confident and accomplished!

From the 2014 year I had managing positions at Bohdan Khmelnytskyi State Pedagogical University: Deputy Dean of the Philological Faculty for Educational Work (2012); Deputy Dean of the Philological Faculty for International Cooperation and Scientific Research(2015); Head of the Department of German Philology (2020). My tasks were to develop the faculty and manage students and staff. In 2016 I initiated the Educational Program “German Languages and Literature (including translation)” and in 2022 we got a positive accreditation of it. There are more than 100 students who got Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree. From 2021 to 2022 I was managing the Educational Courses for Children. I had four tutors under my supervision. Children improved their results in school and high school students successfully entered Universities.
As a lecturer, I always had to develop my professional skills and my students’ hard and soft skills. After my attendance international internship, my colleague and I organized a workshop for the staff and students of pedagogical specialties on how to develop soft skills during the classes and educational process. I have well-developed management skills, computer proficiency, leadership experience, communication skills, organizational know-how, collaboration talent, and problem-solving abilities.
As an experienced teacher, I am sure that respect is the most important component in any relationship. As a linguist and citizen of a multicultural city, I know how valuable to respect other cultures, nationalities, and their diversity.
As the Deputy Dean and the Head of the Department, I took part in the organization of various events, such as Ukrainian and International scientific conferences. I organized meetings and greeted people, providing their connection with each other, we always openly shared knowledge and skills to help each other to develop.
In 2014 I initiated an international project Double Diploma with the University College of Social Sciences (Chenstokhovo, Poland). As a result, nine students got Bachelor’s degrees and five students got Master’s Degree in Business English.
Most of my previous administrative work was related to arranging meetings, visits, and events, including requesting and issuing documentation, assisting in the editing and publishing of documents to promote the faculty, and advertising the Department's achievements.
As an administrative person, I had to support staff and students, contribute to their development, and at the same time explain or pass on complex or detailed information precisely and clearly to all participants of the educational process. Excellent time management and organizational skills and my ability to work under pressure helped me to communicate with different people and successfully run the Department.

◾ Nominee for Best Results in the 2020 MyTutor Awards
I was very fortunate to have been taught in Edinburgh by fantastic professors and want to share this knowledge and inspiration with others. I have taught pupils since 2016 and over the past 6 years have delivered over 4,500 classes, helping them earn a place at the universities of their choice.
Academic awards & achievements
◾ Margaret Stobie Keith Prize in Classics (June 2019, The University of Edinburgh): for work of distinction in Ancient Philosophy or Ancient Religion which was awarded 90% score in the academic coursework section;
◾ W. R. Hardie Memorial Prize in Classics (June 2018, The University of Edinburgh): two prizes are awarded annually for the 'best English essay on a prescribed subject'.
◾ Undergraduate Awards 2018: Highly Commended Award in the Literature Category (August 2018, UA): for my paper 'Love, Lies and Writing to Delight: Narrative reliability in the fictional world of the Second Sophistic'.
About my sessions
I can assist pupils preparing for their GCSEs, A-levels (AQA, CIE, OCR, Edexcel and EDUQAS exam boards) and IELTS examinations.
Provided that students follow all the instructions, they will see marked improvement after our first 10 lessons together. The lesson structure consists of:
◾ 15' of a powerpoint presentation on the topic in focus: I present separate presentations on each topic and question of the exam paper.
◾ Extended task: a skills-focused or pastpaper exercise, followed by detailed oral and written feedback.
◾ Summary quiz at the end of the class.
For my pupils, I also offer the following:
◾ Personalised lesson timetable: To make sure we are strategic in our approach and prioritise all the key skills
◾ No extra charge for homework marking: This is free. I do not ask pupils to book a Marking Time session
◾ Free resources: After each class I send you the presentations and bonus documents for your revision
◾ Monthly progression report: To help you organise your studies and to show you how far you have progressed
◾ Vocabulary booklets: To get you to improve your use of academic phraseology
Yet, all the above are most effective when personalised to the needs of each pupil. Hence, I encourage you to let me know of your interests, preferences and concerns by booking a free meeting with me first.

I have a Bachelor of Science with honours in cellular and molecular biology, human biology, drug design and synthesis, infectious disease, psychology and biological psychology.
My postgraduate qualification is a master’s in public health nutrition. This involved the study of human nutrition, clinical science, epidemiology, statistics and public health policy as well as behavioural change psychology.
I have tutored independently for a decade now. Including home schooling for my son during lockdowns. My focus is always on finding the right learning style and tools for each student. For example, I created interactive online flashcards systems for the Scottish Curriculum. Which students can use to play games to solidify their learning. I try to find videos and other materials that may help those finding a particular area challenging. We all have our own learning style and sometimes finding the right format can be a true light bulb moment for students. I find coming to lessons with multiple different formats has really helped my earlier students grasp concepts they were struggling to understand with textbook learning.
I also have training and personal experience of helping those with neurodiversity learn in an encouraging and supportive way.

Using my knowledge and experience of having taught all ages of the Primary Curriculum - from Nursery to Primary 7 - along with my passion for working with children, I strive to provide the very best level of teaching and learning for every individual I work with. I believe that building solid basic foundations in Literacy and Numeracy gives children the tools to access the wider curriculum with confidence. Tapping into and understanding the ways in which each individual child learns and progresses is key. Every child is an individual, therefore every lesson is tailored to the child, ensuring the right balance of success and challenge is met in each session, thus developing knowledge, skills and most importantly confidence for the child. Getting to know children and building a rapport with each individual is paramount, as is understanding the way in which the each child learns best - through active learning, written methods, talking, listening, reading, watching, doing. The initial tutorial session will be exploratory, consulting with parents to discuss the child’s requirements and areas needing more support and development. I use a variety of resources during tutorial sessions to aid and reinforce teaching points - for example, magnetic alphabetic letters and boards; flash cards; Dienes hundreds, tens and units cubes; Numicon; Seal Maths; Jolly Phonics; Oxford Reading Tree books; Read, Write, Inc resources; Schofield & Sims and CGP workbooks. Each tutorial session starts with a welcoming ‘check-in’ as to how the child is feeling that day and how their day has been, so that I can gauge the expectation for the session. I usually ask if there is anything in particular that the child wants to work on during the session - for example, there may be something that has been introduced in class at school that day/week that the child found confusing or difficult and wants specific help with or further explanation. I would then suggest a plan and learning intention / goal for our tutorial session that day. Teaching would then take the form of practical, written and oral work, ensuring understanding and comprehension as the lesson progresses. The pace of the lesson is very much tailored by my professional judgement and intuition as to how the child is responding and interpreting the work we are doing. A plenary at the end of the session to recap what we have worked on during that session and ensure understanding, is always extremely valuable. In consultation with parents, some request homework for their children, which I am happy to assign and mark. Weekly sessions are most successful, ensuring continuity and progression at a greater pace.
