Learn all the foundational skills you need to start playing enjoyable pieces in just 10 30-minute lessons!
This course is designed for complete beginners who have never studied music before or for those who may have played long ago but have forgotten the basics. It offers a step-by-step, efficient, and progressive curriculum tailored to help you succeed.
In these lessons, you will learn:
- How to hold the violin and bow properly
- How to read notes and basic rhythms on the stave (sheet music)
- How to produce a good sound with your bow
- How to play pieces in the first position
- How to use different bow strokes, including single bow strokes and various slur patterns
- The basics of music theory, including scales, key signatures, time signatures, and how to break down basic rhythms
Please note: To achieve the advertised goals of this course, a consistent practice routine is essential. I recommend practicing 20 to 30 minutes, 4 to 6 times per week.

About the tutor:
Hi, I’m Valentine! I’m a French classically trained violinist now living in Oxfordshire, England. I studied violin for six years at the Conservatory of Nîmes (in the South of France), where I had the opportunity to perform with chamber music groups and orchestras. I was also privileged to play with the Penang Symphony Orchestra in Malaysia for several concerts and performed at private events such as weddings, balls, and recitals.
I’ve been teaching violin for over two years to more than 200 students from around the world, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, the USA, France, the UK, Spain, Argentina, Malaysia, and Singapore. These experiences allowed me to build a strong knowledge of violin performance and music in general, as well as giving me a deep love of pedagody and teaching. Looking forward to meeting you!
