I am an audio engineer and guitarist, with over four years of experience teaching. I believe the best approach to teaching is that the student should always leave the lesson having a good understanding of what was taught in the session.

I have been teaching guitar and music theory for over a decade, as well as being an active professional musician. Graduating with a 1st Class degree in Music from Southampton University, I have since worked with many world class artists including Joss Stone, Jeff Beck, Beverley Knight, Joselyn Brown, Nitin Sawhney, Lamar, Mica Paris, Incognito, Lack Of Afro, Leigh Coleman, The Voice contestant Hannah Berney, Keith Emerson, KT Tunstall… I have performed at prestigious venues and festivals worldwide including Wembley Stadium, The Royal Albert Hall, Byron Bay Blues Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival.
I have over a decade of experience teaching guitar and music theory in colleges and schools, as well as teaching private students and running group and university workshops. I have a full DBS check, Public Liability Insurance and am a member of the Musicians Union and the Registry of Guitar Tutors.
I uphold a friendly and professional attitude towards lessons, making sure the student gets the most out of their time with me and has fun. I encourage students to nurture their creativity in their musical journey, learning not just to play and reproduce what they hear, but develop their own voice, improvise and compose for themselves, be it a short riff or a symphony!
Lessons are planned around the students needs and abilities. I am able to teach all abilities from beginner to advanced, in all styles (including classical, rock, pop, funk and jazz) on both electric and acoustic guitar. Sight reading, reading tablature, and music theory are all taught within the lesson and I am able to tutor students through performance and theory exams. It’s not all about results, but for students looking to take grade exams I offer Rock School, RGT, LCM, ABRSM and Trinity College exam boards. I have a proven track record of success, with over 95% of students achieving a Distinction, and 100% achieiving Merit or higher. I can also support students with GCSE and A-Level studies in Music.
When I’m not teaching, performing or behind a guitar, you’ll probably find me walking through the Devon countryside with my miniature dachshund or enjoying some good food and local ale with my wife and baby son.

I have always been passionate about music. That passion has allowed me to travel the world, and I have met the greatest friends I could have hoped for all because of our shared interest in music. I have shared stages and conversations with my hero’s and the transferable skills I have learned from studying music have meant that I have always found employment. I have vast teaching experience, I currently hold a full-time role teaching music production at the undergraduate level on the Popular Music Performance Course at Leeds Arts University. Previous teaching experience has included; Peripatetic instrument tuition (Guitar, Bass, Ukulele & Drums) at KS3, running creative software and computing workshops within Apple retail from Primary-age up to adults, and vocational workshops in audio production through the West Yorkshire police community fund.
I have a dedicated music studio space, that is set up for one to one tuition in my home. But I am equally comfortable in any setting including online. Please get in touch if you would like to learn more about learning more!

In my professional work I have been envolved in anything from creating the rock music for an internationally released film, to mixing pop and dance for commercial release, not only this, but I have taught for many years, both in 1-1 environments and in larger class settings.
As mentioned before, I have a wide range of experiences teaching. I aim to implement my professional work within my teaching, for example, showing students the mix for a song I worked on, I explain how I completed the mix, what techniques were used and how they can achieve a similar sound, I then will give them the stems for the project and ask them to work on the track themselves! My goal is to make the student feel as welcome as possible, with the greatest improvement possible in a short time span.

I'm a professional Music lecturer and tutor, Guitar teacher and Bass tutor based in the West Midlands. As a Music tutor/instrumental tutor I have 1000+ hours of teaching experience, I hold a Popular Music Degree and in a College employment setting I have 14+ years experience of teaching college students from ages 16+ to adults in a range of levels (1-5).
I know every student’s journey is different, and my aim is to meet each student where they’re at, learning through Music we discuss their aims and develop the curriculum to develop their understanding.
As a musician I play in a variety of bands and performance situations as well as session work for bands and for artists up and down the UK.
I’m a Bass player for a Midlands based punk band who have released three albums and with this I have played festivals around the UK.
I play Guitar for a folk/rock band, a high end function band and also for a Queen tribute band.
As a teacher I work closely with pupils to develop personal goals, and work together on a simple plan on how to reach them. I believe understanding the reason the student is taking lessons and playing guitar/bass or embarking on other musical developments is fundamental to providing quality tuition, so I strive to create plans with the pupil to support their aims. Each lesson always keeps the pupil’s individual goals at its centre, and is created to develop musical fluency.
Ultimately I teach the student to teach themselves by understanding core musical concepts and developing a base of fundamental skills, these include; Ear Training - learning how to recognise the chords in any given song by ear; Strumming and Picking/Fingerpicking Technique - fluency with all standard right hand techniques is a must, and I teach these prioritising what is commonly used in their favourite styles; Reading TAB as well as Staff notation.
Creative Playing, Song Writing, and Improvising is my favourite area of playing and teaching as it helps learners find their own voice! I help to build knowledge of music theory in a practical and applicable way, exploring new concepts that will enable students to discover new sounds.
Again, this is catered to their aims - if they wish to write songs we'll look at some of their favourite artists/genres, see what they're doing, and set some aims for targets to write using some of their techniques.
If learners want to improvise, we'll explore some of our favourite improvisers - what scales to they use, how do they shape their phrases, and what articulation techniques are employed.
If learners have experience playing but need to improve techniques I can show drills and exercises that will make them a better player.
We explore a lot of aspects - from how to move economically; where to have tension and where to avoid it; tonal possibilities as well as how to structure your practice so you get the most for your time, whether you have a little or a lot.

I have taught guitar in Sussex for 20 years, both privately and in schools, colleges and university. I help students with auditions, performances, music exams and just getting better at playing. Whether you want to learn classical guitar, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar or ukulele, I have the knowledge and experience to ensure you can progress quickly.
I provide tuition for music theory and often contribute practical help and guidance for composing and song-writing. I even have experience on lute and baroque guitar, if you have an interest in early music. For those interested in singing while playing guitar or ukulele, I can share my own singing and accompanying experience and help you find your voice.
My wide experience teaching children and teenagers ensures that students will enjoy learning their instrument while making real progress. Past and present students have worked on music A-level, GCSE and IB performances, undergraduate university degree coursework, practiced for concerts and gigs, prepared for auditions and for music grade exams.
I also teach adults, from complete beginners to university students, to other guitar teachers who want to widen their knowledge. Also for adult classical guitarists, I run a regular guitar group. This is great for sight-reading, learning new repertoire and musicianship. It's also good fun and it's a friendly and relaxed group.
I have worked as a music examiner for RSL (Rockschool) and IBO, and helped ABRSM with music syllabus development, so I have a very good understanding of music qualifications.
I have enhanced DBS certification for working with children and vulnerable adults, and Public Liability Insurance.

Guitar, Vocals, Harmonica, Drums (subject to availability), Songwriting, Audio Engineering, Theory & Improvisation lessons in South Sheffield. Effective understanding of improvisation enables players to enjoy jamming & performing live with more confidence. Greater understanding facilitates greater writing possibilities & greater ability to contribute to projects/bands. Much comes down to how we choose to listen, how we choose to interpret & how we can apply a practical understanding of theory & harmony. I approach guitar from a perspective of shapes, patterns & cycles. My aim is to provide aspiring players with the understanding & confidence to improvise, communicate & express with their instrument.
