English Literature Tutor, Teacher
I am an experienced English teacher who has worked in secondary schools for the over 20 years. I am also an AQA Lead Examiner and and Adviser to more than 150 schools for English Language A Level. I have Advanced Diplomas (post degree) in both Language and Literacy and in Child Development. English Language is my passion though, of course, I have taught GCSE Literature as part of my professional role in school and I love teaching the texts associated with the requirements of the course. I enjoy working with teenagers at both GCSE and A Level though my specialist Language knowledge is particularly relevant to A Level Language students. Increasingly, however, this in depth knowledge is relevant to GCSE English students. I am happy to work with all levels and relish the opportunity to engage with individuals who are seeking to increase their knowledge and understanding of the key requirements for both GCSE and A level courses. I am happy to work online to work one to one with pupils and help them to develop their skills through close monitoring and feedback.

My primary specializaton is helping children gain entrance to their preferred secondary school by tutoring and supporting them to pass the entrance exams. I also tutor mathematics and English for ages 7-13, which is in high demand at the moment due to gaps in knowledge caused by the Covid pandemic.
I spent 6 years working in all age groups in primary school as well as 5 years working with adults teaching English as a second language. I have had much success teaching mathematics, English, eleven plus and secondary school entrance exams to children aged 7-13. I have a high pass rate aiding children to pass their 11 plus exam.
I am skilled at building pupils’ confidence in themselves and their ability to up-level their knowledge and gain success. I am experienced teaching both CEM and GL style 11 Plus English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
I use a pupil-centred approach and cater lessons to meet the needs of the individual, producing rapid results. I have experience working with special needs children and have a particular understanding of the needs of autistic children.
I am a caring, friendly and approachable tutor, giving quality feedback regarding the educational level of the pupil and what the next steps are to achieving their targets. I thoroughly enjoy working with pupils and seeing them grow and flourish brings me much satisfaction.

I graduated in English Literature & Creative Writing from MMU with a 1st Class Hons in 2019. Since then I’ve continued writing Songs and Poetry, as well as helping friends with Proofreading and Co-Editing for an independent cultural magazine. I love reading and writing and I can talk confidently about a wide range of literature, including the standard Secondary School texts.
I spent 2 years from 16-18 as a Teaching Assistant in Hebrew for Primary School age children. In March of this year I started tutoring English GCSE for 3 different students. I developed a positive relationship with students and their parents and helped enhance confidence going into exams. We’re still waiting on results but I was glad to have helped a student achieve a Grade 6 in their Oral exam despite English not being their first language! I’m looking forward to developing my experience and not only teaching students but learning from them too.
I will tailor our sessions based on your specific goals and I will listen to the students to hear if they are struggling with anything in particular.
Sessions will be driven by discussion so as to facilitate a deeper and broader understanding of texts and ideas. I like to let students lead the conversation and tell me about what they’re studying before we look at expanding on their knowledge. I encourage students to be open and opinionated, creative and critical.
I make sure to get to know the student on a personal level and find out about their interests. This is important in establishing a relaxed and trusting environment, and it also means that the tasks I set and analogies I provide can remain engaging and relatable.
If there are specific academic goals, we will do a close reading of the assessment objectives in which I can help explain difficult terms and translate these into our particular situation, identifying where the student is at, and working out where we can improve. All the while, I will make sure this feels achievable to the student and never overwhelming.
I will bring in other interesting example texts to discuss, often starkly different and maybe more modern than the texts on the school www.*** is useful in prompting new discussions when the student may be feeling a bit bored of the set texts and needing something fresh. Hopefully, these texts can cultivate an enjoyment of literature that will be beneficial to the student’s mindset. This will also develop the vital skill of preparing for exams with unseen texts and increasing students’ confidence.
The tasks that I set can include relaxed, free-flowing text-based discussion, fun free-thinking Creative Writing prompts, structured revision and grammar practice, and more, depending on goals and learning style.
Building and maintaining confidence will be integral to our sessions and I will do everything to make sure the student feels comfortable and ready for all their assessments, and that despite pressures and anxieties, they are always on a good steady path.

Hi there!
My name is Caitlin A., and I am 22 years old. I am originally from South Africa but spent www.*** years living in Dubai where I completed my secondary school education before moving to England in 2020 to study at university. I have always been very academically driven and received a distinction upon completion of the International General Certificate for Secondary Education (IGCSE) before receiving my high school diploma through the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). Additionally, I had the opportunity to serve as Head Girl during my senior year. Presently, I am studying Music (Songwriting and Performance) at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) and working as a student ambassador at LIPA as well as doing casual work for their widening participation team such as leading and supporting music workshops or directing a small choir of high school students.
In addition to my experience as a student ambassador and workshop leader in a musical setting, I also worked as an assistant teacher for a kids’ theatre summer camp in Dubai. Although this was a short opportunity, I felt it was extremely beneficial in teaching me responsibility, time-management, and dedication. I also learnt how to effectively work with a team as there were other assistant teachers and an instructor. Through my work as a teacher and supporting workshop leader, I have discovered how to plan lessons that are adapted to a specific age group, experience level, learning style etc. and have gained the skills necessary to not only teach a group of students but also in a more personal one-on-one setting. In addition to the above, I completed a job shadowing internship at a modelling agency where I worked in the digital department. My duties involved researching and writing blogs for the website, and administrative work such as updating excel spreadsheets. Not only did this aid me in developing my creative writing skills but it also helped me understand the work that goes into online marketing and brand development. Furthermore, as part of my IB diploma, I completed multiple volunteering tasks in my community including but not limited to painting a mural at school, starting a welcoming committee, and volunteering at church events ( www.*** , cleaning the church).
In addition to my work as a music workshop leader, English is my first language and has always been a passion for me alongside music. I received third place in the 15-17 age group for the Oxford University Press Story Writing Competition in the UAE in 2017 and received the highest grade possible in GCSE English Language (A*) as well as receiving an A in English Literature. As for my high school diploma, I received a B in English Literature. Thus, I am highly qualified to tutor students in English (creative writing as well as literature and comprehension) in addition to supporting them with homework in the subject. With regards to Languages, I have also got a very advanced level of capabilities in French as I received the highest grade possible for my high school diploma (7/A*) and and A in GCSE French. Therefore, I am able to teach French at GCSE level and below.
Yours faithfully,
Caitlin A.

Hey, I’m Gabs and I've been tutoring English Literature and Drama for GCSE, A-Level and Degree students for 10 years. Exam boards include AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Pearson. My main specialism is teaching Shakespeare and poetry.
One of the things I love about lesson time is watching students’ eyes light up when they grasp something new. It’s such a meaningful profession. What better way to spend my time than helping students learn about the most incredible texts that the world has ever known? I hope my classes stay with students throughout their lives.
I’ve taught students from their first year of high school through to college and university—it’s been a huge pleasure to watch them grow.
Tutoring Experience
Literature and Drama are my main subjects. I’ve taught privately in the UK for 10+ years and I have a full DBS check with a 100% pass rate.
In the last 5 years, I’ve worked as a Copywriter for two award-winning advertising firms, Ogilvy and McCann. So, not only can I help students get great grades, but I can help prep them for the professional workplace. While working in advertising, I really missed teaching full-time, so I decided to quit my job and make this my main focus.
Education-wise, I attended Hillcrest Grammar School, Marple Sixth Form College and Salford University.
In 2015, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature & Creative Writing, First Class Honours.
In 2016, I was awarded The Vice Chancellor's Scholarship to complete a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing and I graduated with a Merit.
Tutoring Approach
My teaching style is friendly, fun and professional aimed at High School students, College and beyond. Lessons are tailored to you and we’ll touch on: - Creative writing - Close readings - Analysing prose texts - Analysing poetry - Shakespeare - Essay structuring, spelling, and grammar - Preparing presentations - Revising for exams - Personal assignments or home-work - Working on monologues - Mastering duologues - Character development
Our lessons take place over for 60 minutes at a rate of £50. I accept PayPal and bank transfers.
I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If 24 hours notice is not given, the lesson fee is still paid in full.

I have many years’ experience in tutoring on a one to one basis having worked in both education and work-based training. My experience results from my time working within two primary schools over several years during which I was heavily involved in setting curriculum standard across English and Maths.
In addition, I have an exceptional knowledge of the current changes in GCSE, KS1, KS2 and KS3 syllabuses and can teach a broad range of subjects covering Primary to Adult education. In addition to a teaching qualification I currently hold a TEFL certificate for teaching English as a foreign language. Having current experience in the education sector working as an Educational Consultant for School Libraries I have a good knowledge of the current curriculum in both English and Maths. This along with my teaching experience provides me with a sound basis for teaching these subjects and has furnished me with a large amount of expertise in the relevant fields.
As much as possible I like to make my lessons fun so that my pupils learn without knowing in an enjoyable and relaxed way. I believe this makes way for a productive session which is both interactive and encourages learning and an approach I believe mirrors my personality which is easy going, relaxed and methodical. Therefore, facilitating students to make great progress and achieve the best results they possibly can.

Hi!
I’m Shreya G., a second year medical student in the UK. I enjoy learning just as much as teaching, and its a great learning opportunity for us both. Considering my medical background, I find teaching science and maths favourable. I also have a good understanding of the recent exam patterns and curriculum, as I have recently done it too.
I have taught multiple age groups in the past, and have had positive feedback that shaped me into the tutor today.
I believe that each student needs a different style of teaching, and thus base mine accordingly.
My previous students would describe me as a fun, energetic and engaging tutor, who relies on quizzes and mock tests to keep you engaged. Expect to be on your toes the entire time, and not just sit and listen. Alongside explaining, I like to formulate my own resources- like notes, whiteboards and flashcards- with tips and tricks learned from personal experiences that you won’t find in a textbook, free of cost
Though I believe a normal lesson lasts about 1-2 hours, this is totally dependable on the student themselves.
I look forward to teaching you and learning more about you, while making sure you have fun with my teaching and learn something new!
