English Literature Tutor, Teacher
Hi all, I am a fully qualified English teacher with 10 years experience and now have a few tutoring spaces available from next half term.
I have experience of teaching a wide range of different levels and an excellent track record of obtaining results that students (and their parents!) are proud of, that enables them to progress to the next stage of their educational journey - however that might look for the individual!
I have a wealth of experience and further training in supporting dyslexic students as well as students of a wide ability range up to GCSE level.
I tutor students from KS3 upwards and can tailor tutoring sessions to help support individuals with their specific needs. At GCSE level I have received further training with AQA and am extremely knowledgable regarding the expectations of the exam board for both the English Literature and English Language exams. I have taught many of the Literature set texts to a range of different ability levels and will tailor my teaching style to suit the individual.
If you’d like further information regarding tutoring sessions or have any questions please feel free to contact me.

I have always enjoyed learning and analysing English Literature texts, being able to teach them to students is a passion of mine. Teaching students the core skills to tackle set and unseen texts is my main objective in making literature accessible for all.

I am a final year History student at Bristol. I have lots of experience working in primary school as well as someone to one tuition. I am confident, enthusiastic and really enjoy teaching looking to become a teacher after I graduate.
I usually teach for around an hour typically to primary school age but I am looking to teach some older years as well. I like to keep the lesson interactive not focusing on the same exercise for too long. I find primary school-age children struggle to focus on the same thing for a long time. However, what I like about tutoring one-to-one or in small groups is that it gives you a lot of space to be flexible depending on who I am teaching.

I am passionate about the literary arts; about their ability to communicate ideas and emotions and to help us make sense of the world around us. Tutoring has allowed me to share that passion with students of all age groups and with a wide variety of educational needs. I enjoy the process of finding the best path to helping an individual achieve their goals, whether that be essay structure improvement, gaining a better appreciation of a specific text, or attempting to boost predicted grades. So far, I have had an excellent degree of success with helping the majority of my students attain A and A* Grades at A-Level and GCSE.
I have taught a range of students, from primary school children, through to adult learners and university students over the past 10 years. I find the needs of each student are as individual as they are, and I usually like to keep the sessions fairly informal and discover exactly where it is that students are finding themselves in difficulties. This also encourages them to develop and have confidence in their own individual voice, both in creative writing, or in their approach to analysing a specific text.
Some of the areas I have experience in and have covered are:
-Boosting English Language and Literature grades at GCSE and A-Level
-UCAS applications
-Preparation for Oxbridge/ university entrance interviews
-Practical criticism and close textual analysis
-Essay structure and style
-Coursework guidance
-Creative writing support
-Historical context and its textual significance
-Literary theory and its application
-Helping students gain confidence in expressing ideas verbally
-Remote marking and feedback
-Suggestions for wider reading
-My particular research interests at university included: Irish Literature, Empire writing, W. B. Yeats and literary satire in the 18th century.

I have been a tutor for a few years teaching both face to face and online. To me, the most important thing as a tutor is to really listen to your student and let them explain what they may find challenging about a subject. Each student is different and therefore their lessons should also be unique. My students appreciate my friendly approach to learning and it is important that the students are in the driving seat of their lessons. I regularly ask my students what they would like to focus on and I base my lessons around where they can make the most progress.
I think it is important to have a tutor that is actively learning more about their subject of choice and that is why I am unique as a tutor. I am currently studying English literature with French and Spanish at The Universoty of Sheffield and this degree encompasses my strenghts and also what I enjoy. I am open to tutoring any ability level and I really look forward to meeting you!

I have been teaching English for 25 years to various age groups coming from various ethnic backgrounds and driven by various reasons: from primary kids to post-graduate students. I am very empathetic and student-oriented. I have taught General English, ESP (English for Specific Purposes), English Linguistics, GCSE, EFL, ESOL; I am also a Cambridge Speaking Examiner for YLE, KET, PET, FCE and CAE. Although for more than 15 years I was mainly and heavily involved in teaching various aspects of English at a university level, I never lost touch with the secondary teaching in a permanent effort to keep myself in the loop in terms of teaching methodology. Being motivated to achieve the highest possible standards in work and conduct, I have always placed the education of my students at the top of my list of priorities. I believe that proficiency cannot be achieved in the absence of a strong set of moral values accompanied by an equally strong subject knowledge.
My teaching philosophy relies on several pillars as follows: (i) identifying the needs of the students, (ii) designing a well-structured plan and (iii) constantly pushing their upper limits while closely monitoring their achievement so as, at the end, their knowledge and skills are solid and pertinent. When exploring the mechanism of the learning process, anyone who has been in this profession for a significant amount of time comes to realise the overwhelming importance of another factor besides setting high standards, promoting progress and demonstrating good subject knowledge, and this is the psychological one. One cannot adapt one's teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of one's students without taking into account their intellectual and emotional needs that are very frequently extremely different.

I have been teaching as a private tutor in the private education sector independently and through agencies across Hampshire for over fifteen years. I tutor full time and this is my business and full time career. Therefore, unlike many teachers who do a few private lessons here and there, I am fully committed and can spend all of my time preparing lessons and focusing on just my private students. I have taught children who are being home schooled, pupils who need some one to one tuition, group tuition, helped to run successful revision courses through an agency and prepared pupils for exams such as Common Entrance, GCSE's and SAT's (all of which I have had successful results with and have kept a record of.)
I have experience of working with several learning difficulties as well as behavioural problems.
I have taught in several schools across Hampshire and other areas of the country.
I am extremely familiar with The National Curriculum, different syllabuses and the variety of examination boards that schools use #/k#and stick to following these.
I have a firm, fun but fair approach to tuition and encourage pupils to work to the best of their ability through praise and reward. I always follow up lessons with advise on what areas need to be improved upon, followed by a positive and encouraging remark about the pupil's work so that confidence is not lost.
I enjoy providing parent's with continual progress reports after each session and offer advise as and when it is needed. I am happy to provide references on request.
I always offer an initial assessment before sessions commence so that I can get a general idea of how I can help the student, and for the student to see whether they like my teaching style. After the assessment, lessons are carefully planned and prepared to meet each individual's needs/requirements. Continual support via e mail is offered (especially for those special cases like exam times, which as we all know can be very stressful for the parent and the student.)
