Music Tutor, Teacher
Lytham Saint Annes, England
I have been playing guitar for 16 years and teaching music for 3 years. I have been involved in a variety of different bands and ensembles within that time. My main focus throughout this time has been all kinds of rock music but I also have lots of experience in metal and acoustic singer/songwriter styles. I qualified from Leeds College of Music, gaining a 2:1 degree in Music Production and Performance, and possess a passion for music and teaching. I have recently completed a Post Graduate Certificate of Education in Music at Edge Hill University, achieving a Distinction in the process.
I take a very professional approach to teaching and I usually like to start the student off with a song to allow them to enjoy playing immediately. No matter what their ability I find a student is always able to learn a song they know and with this approach they progress much faster. I can take you all the way from a very beginner through to advanced levels. I take a practical and direct approach and would expect the student to be involved from the very beginning.

I am an enthusiastic and motivated teacher with a passionate commitment to high quality standards of teaching, learning and behaviour, as evidenced in recent feedback which has been consistently good.
I am a creative and engaging teacher, building relationships through taking a compassionate yet professional approach.
I have teaching experience of across a vast range of contexts teaching at Key Stage 3, and delivering GCSE Music, Btec Music and Btec Performance. I have also taught Religious Education to A level in two outstanding schools and I have delivered KS3, KS4 and KS5 history at the Queen Katherine School in Kendal. Whilst at Queen Katherine, I was particularly instrumental in the revision of the KS4 history curriculum in line with the new Edexcel 9-1 specification and the KS5 music curriculum in line with the new A level music course. In addition to this, I have provided 1:2:1 tuition at Our Lady's Catholic college, supporting Year 11 students in English, Maths and Science, as well as options subjects.
Whilst at Baines, I was temporarily the only member of the music department and was responsible for the delivery of GCSE Music and A Level music. In addition to this I organised 3 extra-curricular events and co-ordinated the school peripatetic instrument teacher system.
My particularly curriculum strengths in music are Western Classical Music and Popular music. In Religious Studies, my curriculum strengths are Philosophy, Biblical Studies and Church History. As a historian, my preferred period of study is Tudor England.
