I teach English language and music. First, my experience of teaching music. I have extensive experience of working with students at all levels. I have undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in music. I have taught music for the Open University and currently teach music for Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, where my specialty is the history of opera. I am also a senior member of the examinations team for music at the International Baccalaureate Organisation, with particular responsibility for the extended essay in music ( a subject I have written a guide on). My role with IBO involves setting the standard for the extended essay, in consultation with my colleagues, and then leading a team of examiners with the aim of ensuring that the standard is adhered to. I am a trustee of the Society for Music Analysis, the UK's leading learned society for the promotion of the study of music analysis. I have contributed papers to international conferences and founded Theory of Music Ltd a not-for-profit company which provides free and low-cost resources for the study of the history and theory of music. I have extensive experience of teaching online as well as face to face. I am particularly interested in teaching music history and theory.
Second, my experience of teaching English language. I have extensive experience of teaching adult students. I have taught corporate clients for the past 10 years and for the previous 4 years was an IELTS instructor for Aston American University. I taught students online worldwide and helped many students achieve the result they needed in the test. Lessons were usually conducted on zoom or Skype. I also wrote a PTE Academic Test of English course for Aston American. I have published degree level distance learning courses and occasional reviews, e.g. in the Times Higher Education Supplement. I very much enjoy meeting students from different cultures and helping them achieve their goals.

About Me: Experience & Interests
Having qualified as a teacher in 2004, I have been teaching at Secondary level (including A Level) for 16 years. My first two years in the profession were spent teaching in Bassaleg School in Newport before moving to Oxfordshire 14 years ago, to teach in a comprehensive school in Abingdon. In 2008, I became Head of English, a role I held for 6 years prior to having children. I have been tutoring privately for the past 6 years, with tutees ranging from Year 5 to Year 11. My area of interest and expertise for tutoring has mainly focused on KS4, but I also have experience in tutoring younger students for their Year 6 SATS Exam and for the 13+ Grammar School examination. In my role as Head of English, I oversaw Literacy across the Curriculum Interventions and Developments as well as mentoring trainee interns and delivering professional development sessions to newly qualified teachers. As a mentor for the PGCE teacher-training course at The University of Oxford, I have also regularly assisted the university in interviewing applicants for their course. As an examiner for AQA Literature, I have had training in understanding the requirements of the new 2015 specification, as well as three years’ experience of grading exam scripts. I am also an assessor for the National Foundation for Educational Research, an independent provider of research in education. I have experience in teaching various exam boards including AQA, WJEC, Edexcel and IGCSE. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the violin and piano, going to the gym, swimming and skiing.

Approaches to Tutoring
Different students require different approaches to learning and so I work hard to tailor my sessions according to the needs of the student. I offer term-time and holiday lessons: one-off sessions, short term or long term according to the needs of the student. Please send me a message if you would like further information and prices. Some areas that I normally focus on include:
· GCSE specimen and past paper questions
· Focus on a specific text/question
· Controlled Assessments / Coursework / Essays – planning, writing, proof-reading
· Achieving a Grade 4/5
· Achieving a Grade 8/9
· Analysis of set texts
· Addressing individual Assessment Objectives
· Any aspect of KS2 and KS3 Literacy including Year 6 SATS preparation

As a passionate licensed teacher, my primary goal is to motivate and guide students to achieve excellence and exceed their own personal limits using diverse up-to-date pedagogical strategies.
I am currently a PhD student in Education at the University of Bath, Bath Somerset.
I worked as an ESL and SEN Teacher for the past 5 years in Japan teaching both online and in-person, after concluding a post-graduate educational research program at Naruto University of Education, Japan. I also have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education degree (National Teachers' Institute, Nigeria) and a www.*** in Botany (Second Class Upper Honors) from Nnamdi Azikiwe University , Awka, Nigeria.
Prior to that, I had taught for five years at The Centagon International School (TCIS), Abuja and for two years at Rainbow International College, Surulere, Lagos.
In addition to striving to instill a love of learning and making learning exciting and interesting, I utilize activities according to curriculum requirements, and expand on previous knowledge while encouraging students to explore new and interesting possibilities. I also spur students to construct their own learning in an environment that stimulates and helps them realize their full potential.
Having taught in international multicultural schools, I have had some excellent results with a wide range of learners who had had a history/background of 'not-so-good' performance in Math, English and Sciences. A good number of my students who had challenges in core aspects now hit on-levels and above-levels with ease, confidence, and delight.
With lots of experience preparing children for 7+,11+ and 13+ exams, I intend to combine my wealth of teaching experience with my ability as a compassionate, enthusiastic, innovative teacher in order to help your child achieve and exceed their goals.
I look forward to the opportunity of meeting with you!
