I am friendly, approachable and enjoy making learning meaningful for pupils. My lessons begin with starting activities to recap the previous learning, identify any misconceptions. Moving onto the main part of the lesson I plan activities promoting fluency in the skill then application to a real-life situation or worded exam-style question. Games and quizzes can be fun and useful in testing rapid recall.
I have been teaching for fifteen years and have taught learners of all abilities, backgrounds and socio-economic circumstances, planning for progression and offering timely feedback. I endeavour to make learning as enjoyable as possible and do my utmost to "make learning stick". I am compassionate and go the extra mile for learners.

My teaching experience has enabled me to work in a number of outstanding schools (Ofsted rated), all of which have been fully comprehensive mixed gender secondaries.

Aside from my professional credentials, I am an approachable, honest and hard-working individual, who finds it easy to build positive working relationships with my students, in order to get the best results possible. I am an effective and highly qualified teacher with Hons, Masters and PhD. I also hold a CMI Exec Dip in Management and like to keep up to date with regular CPD. i have been teaching online since 2007, and more traditional setting since 1995. I ensure that students reach their potential and can establish a rapport quickly. I am a published author with Nelson Thornes and Hodder Education and love passing on writing craft to those who would benefit. I did not enter teaching through the traditional pathway and left school without any qualifications at the age of 15, having been placed in the lowest ability stream at secondary school. I am a friendly, approachable wife, mum of two and teacher. I enjoy helping others and seeing their confidence grow which is the reason I chose teaching as a career. I have always been passionate about science and find how the world works to be fascinating. I love finding out about new developments in the area of science and how they can help us in the future, there is so much to learn about this subject as it does not stand still. Family time with my children will often involve a trip to a museum or an experiment at the kitchen table. I am a member of the National Trust and enjoy visiting historical places and spending time outdoors. To relax I enjoy a good read and take part in local park runs.
In each session I model key concepts and provide practice opportunities for students to embed their knowledge and understanding. I use techniques to help memory recall and aid application. I will provide independent learning tasks and feedback to both student and parent.
KS3 Science - engaging and interactive sessions using lots of practical activities to allow students to reach mastery level. Homework help and revision support for assessments.
KS4 Combined Science - engaging and interactive sessions, required practical explanations, homework support and exam preparation following AQA / Edexcel specification.
KS4 Separate Science Biology - engaging and interactive sessions, required practical explanations, homework support and exam preparation following AQA / Edexcel specification.
A Level Biology
I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1997 with a BSc hons (2:1) in Biological Science and then began a career in the pharmaceutical industry where I worked in microbiological laboratories and manufacturing areas for 6 years. This gave me a great experience of how science is applied in the real world and I worked with a variety of people with many skills. The role gave me an understanding of the requirements of having a job and I developed many skills such as teamwork, communication, and time management. I realised from training new starters that I wanted to continue this type of job role more and looked at other career options and decided to train to be a secondary science teacher. I have now been teaching for 17 years and have found it to be an extremely rewarding and enjoyable career. I have had many roles at schools where I have worked including Form Tutor, S. T. E. M co-coordinator, Associate Teacher Mentor, Head of Science and Examiner for Edexcel. I have taken part in many curriculum development courses to enhance my teaching practice and have delivered training to other teachers to develop teaching and learning within schools. I read many research articles and listen to podcasts on new pedagogy which I adapt and use within my own teaching, I recognise that showing students how to learn is just as important as delivering curriculum content. I use retrieval practice in all lessons and interleave topics to aid memory recall. I enjoy being creative and use engaging and varied activities in my lessons for example model making of a specialised cells to illustrate their structure or use of web quests for independent learning. I have organised and led workshops, science clubs and educational trips which I recognise is an important way of enriching a child's experience of the subject. I have experience working in a variety of secondary schools and have a detailed knowledge of the new curriculum, examination preparation, behaviour management, SEN and safeguarding. I am currently still teaching within schools and take pride knowing that I deliver high quality teaching which allows the students I teach to reach their potential and make progress. I am also confident using various platforms to deliver lessons online.

Hi, I´m Helena, I am a native German and I simply love tutoring. I am enthusiastic about languages, and I hope I can inspire you. At school, I learned 3 foreign languages and so I was also in the position of being a second-language learner myself and can relate to the struggles, but also the passion, of learning new languages. I would love to help you improve your German: whether spoken, written, improving your accent, or simply building your vocabulary. I also help with or conduct German translations. I will first find out the level of German you are currently at and what you intend to learn. I will measure your strengths and weaknesses and create a tailored lesson plan. The focus of my tutoring will be set on the area which is the most difficult for you to learn, whether that is grammar, vocabulary, conversation skills or other. I work with a great variety of materials, ranging from traditional documents and task sheets to films, articles, and language games. In my opinion, it is very important that you have fun during lessons, so I always try to come up with new ideas. I give my best talking slowly and understandably, so you will see progress quickly and benefit from the lesson. I have already recognized my passion for teaching as a German, Maths and English tutor and as a sports coach in Germany. More recently I began teaching German here in the UK both in person as well as virtually. To make sure that I support my students in the most effective way, I informed myself about the UK school system and the existing expectations regarding both curriculum and exams. Additionally, I could already gain some tutoring experience for international students. I have a great deal of satisfaction when I see students building confidence, becoming competent and being able to speak German more and more fluently. I am from a small town in Bavaria, the southern Germany. After my studies of health promotion and 3 years of gaining work experiences, I decided to do one year off and spend it in the UK. I love to travel and doing sports like playing soccer, going running and hiking.
