After achieving QTS in 1999, I taught in several primary schools for five years, covering all ages (from Nursery to Year 6) and a wide range of abilities (from working towards level 1 up to level 6), in the full range of core and foundation subjects. However, having a predominantly financial/ numerical background, I decided to focus my teaching on mathematics and commenced teaching mathematics in secondary schools from September 2004, covering a wide range of abilities from below NC level 3 to GCSE Higher level.
From May 2007 to August 2019, I was employed by Kip McGrath (Keighley), tutoring students (during evenings and on Saturdays) in Maths (aged 6 to 18 years, at KS1 level up to GCSE Higher level), English (aged 6 to 11 years, at KS1 &2) and in verbal and non-verbal reasoning, in preparation for 11+ High School Entrance Exams. This involved supporting students in small groups working on individual, predominantly computer-based, learning programmes, to enable them to catch-up or improve their skills in specific areas, whilst working towards their personal targets/ goals, e.g. in KS2 SATs, 11+ Entrance Exams or GCSE exams. This experience inspired me to set up my own private tutoring business, which I have been running since April 2014, providing tuition to individual students in maths (aged 7 – 18+), English (ages 7-13), preparing students (aged 9/12) for local High School Entrance Exams and preparing adult learners for Functional Skills exams in both Literacy and Numeracy.
Having studied many courses covering a wide range of disabilities, including ASD, Dyslexia, ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder, I believe I have a good understanding of, and empathy for, students with SEND and SEMH. To this end, I have taught many students with a range of learning difficulties/ barriers to learning and feel that I have made a considerable difference to each student’s enjoyment of mathematics and life-outcomes. I believe that my own enjoyment of learning enables me to encourage and motivate others to successfully engage in the learning process.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, I have delivered many lessons via Skype and Zoom and feel that I have become confident and competent in using these platforms for teaching students remotely and would be happy to continue to do so if required.

She enjoys teaching others how to play the wide range of brass instruments that can be found in orchestras, brass bands and marching bands. Currently she plays for a local brass band as well as playing in a couple of local orchestras when required.
Although Allison mainly teaches brass instrumental lessons, she does also offer music theory lessons although she does try to include some music theory as part of her practical lessons. At present Allison has a 100% pass rate on all practical exams that her students have taken. Although Allison is happy to help students with music examinations she is also happy to offer lessons to those who just want to learn for fun.

I have taught Economics and Politics for many years at a leading independent school and perhaps more importantly, have a great deal of A level marking and tutoring experience. I am Head of Department and have been Principal Examiner for many years in Politics and Assistant Examiner for Economics. I have been published in various journals and prepare my own resources for A level classes. I am frequently invited to speak at A level conferences and other schools. I have had special responsibility for Oxbridge and university applications and so can also assist with preparation of personal statements, interviews and assessment tests.
I consider myself to be an empathetic and patient teacher who is always willing to cater to the needs of the individual student. I am a good communicator and am able to explain complex issues in ways which allow students to develop the key skills needed for exam success. I like to bring all my examining and teaching experience into play when tutoring as I believe the end game is fairly obvious in that my tutees want exam success. To that end I tailor lessons to the needs of the student in identifying areas of concern and weakness and advising on how to overcome these. I am able to bring extra materials to classes, written to suit the demands of the new A levels and to give the students that edge that might improve grade performance. Previous tutees have improved upon their expected grade performance.
