I recently completed a masters degree in civil engineering at the University of Bristol, and have since worked as a structural engineer for 15 months. At A-Level, I achieved an A* in mathematics, an A* in physics, and an A in chemistry. At GCSE level, I achieved 9A*s and 1A, including an A* in maths. I am looking to help students work through topics they are struggling with, and achieve their potential in the subject. I want to use the knowledge and experience I have gained during my time at school, university, and in my work as an engineer, to help provide productive and fulfilling lessons to students.
I am an award-winning and highly experienced "super" tutor and academic coach with over 15 years of tutoring, teaching and coaching experience, during which period I have made multiple students become university toppers and world prize winners. As for my own qualifications, I have a First Class Honours degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Doctorate in Engineering (Expertise: High-fidelity numerical simulations). As an undergraduate student at university, I was ranked number 1 with a cumulative average of 84%, for which I was honoured as the `Top Engineering Graduate`. I passed my A-levels (examining board: Edexcel) with straight A grades (note: there were no A* grades at the time), and my Mathematics mark in particular was ranked among the top in the world. Until recently, I was also employed as a Senior Teaching Associate in Mechatronics Engineering at a leading UK University, where I was widely regarded as the highest-rated Academic. My priority is tailoring each of my lessons according to individual students, which is a key aspect of one-to-one tutoring. I also use questions and homework to check understanding continually. I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student`s understanding and technique.
I always take a student-centered approach to teaching by asking students to bring their notes and talk me through the topics they feel are most difficult. My aim as your tutor would be to identify your strengths and weaknesses and build upon these appropriately. I would incorporate past paper questions very early in the curriculum to assess how well a child can apply their knowledge to answering exam questions. This will ensure that by the time the exams are sat the student will be fully prepared.

Each lesson begins with a run-through of the topic and explanation of key concepts with opportunities for pupils to ask questions. Students are then provided with high yield exam questions and worksheets to complete. Questions are then marked together to highlight areas of strength and areas of improvement. An emphasis is always maintained on exam technique during each lesson. Assessments to determine student improvement are provided every 4-6 weeks.
All students are taught how to study effectively using two evidence-based study techniques:
1) Active Recall - Here students create useful revision questions to test their memory of certain topics
2) Spaced Repetition - Here students are taught how to strategically review topics regularly and boost their chances of remembering important exam content throughout the year and leading up to exams.
My classes are always tailored with a personalised programme for each and every student and remain friendly and engaging. All resources including specialised notes for each exam board, revision questions and exam question related to the tutees exam board are provided free of charge. Tuition goes beyond the `hour slot` as students are able to contact me via phone, email and tutor hunt messaging. I also remain engaged with the lesson and do not `clock-watch`.
