I love Biology and believe that anyone can enjoy learning more about life on Earth. I find that students thrive with one-to-one tuition because it is tailored for their needs - we can make sure that they understand the subject content as well as working on any weakness in exam technique. A huge part of succeeding in Biology is having the confidence to interpret and answer the questions correctly. This comes more quickly with guidance from someone who has seen a lot of exam papers!

Dedicated tutor of sciences at GCSE & Biology Alevel.
The GCSE biology, chemistry, physics and A level biology specifications are broader and more challenging than ever and securing places at Sixth Form and University remains competitive. Tuition offers students the opportunity to gain a more in depth and comprehensive understanding of the syllabus and create a better environment for success throughout the teaching year and in particular at exam time. I am a highly motivated and dedicated science tutor offering one to one personal tuition for single or combined science subjects. I've been working in the scientific/education field since 1982 firstly at Oxford University and then Faringdon Academy and have a proven track record of success over the last 15 years. My aim is to provide personal tuition tailored to suit the individual needs of students explaining scientific concepts in an easy-to-understand way, enabling a good understanding of the subject matter and increasing students confidence and grades. Students are encouraged to answer past exam papers to gain full appreciation of scientific key words, exam technique and mark scheme associated with each question. Science Explained Simply!

I qualified as a Secondary School Science Teacher, specialising in Chemistry in 2013 after completing my PGCE at The University of Oxford. I began my teaching career in a Secondary State School in Oxford before becoming the Head of Chemistry at an Independent School near Oxford in 2017.
I have now started my own private tutoring business aimed at providing personalised support to students studying Science to help them grow in their confidence and boost their attainment.
I have 10 years of experience teaching GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics and A Level Biology and Chemistry. I spent 7 years teaching in school and have carried out at least 2000 hours of tutoring. My role as Head of Chemistry has given me a good insight into how to help students make progress and succeed, and also provided me with lots of skills and resources to help with this. I have also had many hours of tutoring experience in Science and Maths, covering a range of exam boards. I have experience supporting students who are aiming to improve their grades.
My lessons are carried out online using Zoom. I have found that this method is most effective for tuition as it enables greater student engagement and participation as well as maximising flexibility for covering different topics within a lesson using a range of resources.
I use an online interactive whiteboard and Zoom’s screen sharing functionality to share resources. My lessons combine a range of different components, from explanations and diagrams using the whiteboard, to exam question practice. At the end of the lesson all notes and resources used are uploaded to the student’s own virtual Google Classroom for them to access whenever they like. This organises their resources clearly, making independent study easier and helping with revision.
I use a clear straightforward style to provide personalised in-depth tutoring to students studying Science. My aim is to help students grow in confidence, to increase their scientific understanding and improve their exam technique in order for them to maximise their attainment.
To consolidate understanding, I follow up explanations with appropriate questions/exam questions using the shared screen function. Any resources used during a lesson are then sent to the student. If parents or students request it, I will set homework which can be used to further consolidate the lesson content or to prepare for the next lesson.

I am an experienced classroom teacher with over 20 years experience. I currently work in a small comprehensive school in Oxfordshire. I have been in this role for the past 6 years. Previous to this I worked in another comprehensive school in Oxfordshire where I was responsible for classroom teaching and as a pastoral leader as well.
I have experience in providing private tuition for students of KS3,4 and 5. I specialise in general science at KS3 and 4, Chemistry for KS4 triple science and A level chemistry. I have been tutoring in this way for over 7 years and I really enjoy it, particularly seeing an individual gain confidence in the subject and experience in passing exams. I am adaptable and can tailor lessons to an individual student's requirements.
I am also a GCSE examiner for AQA. My students have found my experience in this area useful when applying their knowledge to comprehending and learning how to answer exam questions.

MIT 2020 graduate in mechanical engineering, currently a PhD student in Biomechanics engineering at the University of Oxford. 2015 IB graduate with a 45/45 grade. I graduated from Amman Academy High School in 2015. I took the International Baccalaureate Diploma and achieved the full score of (45/45) (Four Higher Level subjects). I completed my bachelor's degree, majoring in both mechanical and biological engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, www.*** GPA. I am currently a graduate student (PhD) at the University of Oxford (UK) in biomedical engineering.
I did private tutoring in Amman for college students and high school students in A levels and IB Math subjects, Chemistry and Physics SL and HL, both with the material and with internal reports. In addition, while taking the IB diploma myself, I did extensively help my peers in grasping important or confusing material: (Note: for ethical reasons, I no longer 'help' with IB internal reports or projects).
Apart from teaching IB A-levels, and college prep on the side for 8 years, I worked as a Teacher Assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for mechanical and biological engineering subjects (dynamics and control, inorganic chemistry, thermodynamics), as well as a tutor for biofluids and biomechanics at the University of Oxford, helping Professors write the course material, offering recitations and review sessions for my students, and grading weekly homework and quizzes.
I am very interested in the methodology behind teaching and continuously work to learn and improve my approach. I understand that each student is different from the others, and accordingly, I tailor the tutoring session according to the individual needs of the student. I am also friendly, young and easy to approach by the students, and am into reading, sports and health in my free time.
I have also taken the SAT and SAT Subject Tests (Math Level II and Chemistry) required for US university admissions, and scored 800/800 and 780/800, respectively. As well as the GRE scoring 95th percentile in the quantitative section.

I have experience working with children to aid their progress in class by helping with homework and reteaching them aspects they don't understand. This has required me to refamiliarise myself with the content and processes that they need to know to complete their homework. Therefore I can understand, through talking to the child where they may be confused and being able to work out how to teach them in the way that is best suited to them. This, of course, cannot be achieved in a classroom of 30 students. I will be able to help with Biology and Chemistry up to a GCSE level as well as several years below that in order to help them build a strong foundation of understanding moving forward into higher education. Having recieved a 9 (A*) in GCSE maths and doing maths in my A-levels I am well equiped to teach up to a KS3 level (age 13/14). Email ***@*** for any enquiries

Skills Summary
I am passionate and hardworking which will allow me to fulfil this role to the best of my ability and fully demonstrate my skills. This will help to achieve important goals whilst also ensuring we deliver an excellent service. In addition, I have strong leadership qualities which demonstrate my proactive and positive attitude, as well as my ability to work well under pressure and multitask.

Experience
Whilst I have no specific academic tutoring experience, my wide range of extra-curricular activities and interests have allowed me to tackle new challenges with confidence and hone key qualities that would apply equally well to a role in the industry. As a member of the 1st XI school hockey and cricket teams, representing South-East England and Oxfordshire respectively in both, I have used and improved teamwork and communication skills vital to thrive in a team environment, whilst my position as vice-captain for the school hockey team has allowed me to confidently step up as a leader when necessary. However, my 2-year experience working as both a cricket and hockey coach for Oxford Cricket Club and Oxfordshire County Hockey for a wide variety of age groups has allowed me to understand how to build strong student-teacher relationships, highlighting the importance of trust in maintaining a fun but productive working environment. In addition, my role as a school prefect has developed my interpersonal and organisation skills, through carrying out personalised tours and managing large events, all helping to build my adaptable nature. All these roles have also made maximum use of my written, organisational planning and co-ordination skills, and would be at least beneficial, if not essential, for this job.
